It's a real shame Broncos will be missing Haas for the game against Souths. Then again, if Broncos actually beat Souths without him, everyone will have no choice but to take the Broncos as a very serious premiership threat.
It's complete BS he isn't playing - this hip drop thing is out of control. I would have loved to have seen the Broncs at full strength because if they played like they did in the 1st half this week the whole game, they'd probably win. Will be hard without Haas and Maam.

Most of the time it's like the high tackles when the player who gets hit high is falling so he's connected at around waist level. Unless it was intentional, it should be play on. Just an unfortunate accident.

Any team that makes as few mistakes as the Broncos did in the first half wold be very hard to beat. Thankfully, it's not likely to be repeated on a regular basis.

You don't think they are capable of putting it together enough like this?

They probably can't do it for an entire game. Not meant to be a criticism. I don't think any team will be able to do it for an entire 80min.

Yeah I don't think right now they can right now either, maybe towards the end of the season if they don't capitulate again.

They will come right back in the Origin period. Just a question of whether they can right the ship. After watching the Penrith-Souths game, I think the Broncos are behind them. Then there's Melbourne and the Roosters.

Top 8 after last round:
  1. Penrith
  2. Melbourne
  3. Souths
  4. Roosters
  5. Dolphins
  6. Broncos
  7. Manly
  8. Cronulla

Would have been better for the Dolphins if:
  • Dragons won
  • Penrith - Newcastle didn't matter either way. Penrith will make the top 4. Newcastle won't make the top 8.
  • Melbourne beat Manly
  • Broncos beat Gold Coast
  • Souths beat NQ. But then again, Souths are going downhill fast. They might yet drop out of the 8.
  • In the next game, it would be better of Roosters won.

I think after the last few weeks it doesn't really matter what other teams do. We seem to have made a decision to not want to be in the 8 so it is all up to us really.

Yep. The form has fallen off a cliff. Ever since that game against Cronulla when we were being talked about as a top 4 side or even minor premiers. Since them, the team has been atrocious. Right off the first set after the kick off last weekend, Parramatta ran for almost 80min and ended the set with an attacking kick. And they didn't do anything special. Just ran hard, got quick play the balls.

Perhaps all the initial hype and novelty has worn off? Key injuries/suspensions haven't helped, but there is only so far a competitive mindset can go without quality across the park to back it up against teams all finding their best form well into the season.

I'm proud as what we have accomplished so far, we have already well exceeded expectations, but fact is our roster is so far behind the top and even mid range teams, without JMK at the very least, its got to be tough.

That's true. Coming into round 1, by this stage of the season I wasn't hoping they'd be in contention for the top 8 but that they wouldn't in spoon territory.

And when JMK is back and the forwards start aiming up again, top 8 is a very real possibility.

If the defence isn't drastically hardened up, we won't be playing in the finals this year.

100%, the last few weeks in distinct stages of the matches it's been terrible. Without Gilbert and particularly JMK doing all his cleanup work in the middle, even our top defenders as well as newbies have been well caught out a lot.

Basically, Tom Gilbert was the linchpin for the defence in the middle and JMK was the linchpin for the attack in the middle.

As much as I like Niko and Kafusi, for senior players, that first half on the weekend they made some seriously bad defensive errors and reads. Aitken wasn't far behind them either. McBrady alongside Val alongside Kodi was just a recipe for disaster, and I feel bad for Kafusi on that edge, because our defense there was all over the shop.

Agreed about Gilbert, but JMK has been making 40-50 tackles a match as hooker - by far our top tackler every single game. As good as his attacking direction is, that is a shitload of tackles to try and make up with makeshift hookers.

Didn't realise he was such a tackling machine.
