I reckon Gilbert has deserved the captaincy if it becomes available, JMK is a bit quiet from what I have seen from his on field vision and interviews. Gilbert is pretty vocal and really leads from the front. Not sure if I have seen Herbie do anything like this, he is more of a mercenary.
Tommy might be too much of a boof head to be Captain. Anyone know what he's like off the field. Is he more likely to be reading philosophy or head butting walls?

I can only find one interview with him, but he comes across very passionate and well spoken, definitely not how I thought he would be. He seems very humble and proud. Its only one interview so hard to make a judgement from it, but he seems like a decent bloke who obviously leads with his actions on the field...

Just found this video too -

I quite like how he seems to really get what origin and footy is all about whilst being so humble. At 22 he is maybe a bit young to be captain but in the future I have no doubt he will be a leader.

He's also a Norths Devils junior, so is just from down the road. It would be awesome to have someone from Redcliffe as captain, but Norths is almost as good.

In the first one he does sound surprisingly well spoken.

I heard he spends most of his free time reading poetry and learning Latin.
He is also very close to finding a cure for cancer and has written a thesis on the geopolitical influence of Western Europe in colonial times. He also likes to smash a few tinnies with the boys. Well rounded chap :)

Off contract players this year:
  • JJ Collins (let him go. Hasn't kicked on to be an NRL player. Good QLD Cup player.)
  • Poasa Faamausili (As above.)
  • Tesi Niu (I'm not sure why he was dropped. Might be a better centre than winger but with Herbie coming, probably nowhere for him in the centres.)

Avarillo too. We are good on centres for next year.

I would love a marquee half to lead the team, and just depth from there.

We have enough "good first graders". Need a marquee player to take us to the next level. But the form of our aging props has gone downhill as the season has progressed. Flegler is on board for next year but might need another 1 or 2 props.

I remember watching Micheal Chee Kam when he was really young playing for the Tigers tear the Broncos defence apart in one game. I thought, "that guy is going places". Obviously hasn't kicked on. Wayne might be able to work some magic with him. But he's a backrower, not a prop.

I'm warming more to getting Ben Hunt, even if its only 2-3 years. Whether he partners Katoa, Milf, SOS or Kodi is really up to them to fight out until next year if we somehow found a way to get him here.

Disagree. IMO he's already going downhill. If we could get him for this year, I might reconsider that opinion.

He had a shocker last game after all the contract commotion. Other than that, in an absolutely terrible team who are running last and have been dominated every week in the forwards, in 15 games he has still somehow managed...

13 try assists
13 linebreaks
6 tries
Avg running metres 92m
Offloads 19
Kicking metres 346m
Forced dropouts 9

Then in D 261 tackles @ 85% efficiency (missed)

If he can do that behind a bludger of a forward pack and ineffective spine, imagine what he could do behind our forward pack affording him some space and field position, plus plugging into a spine/backline with Hammer, JMK and Herbie. Not to mention the value of his mentorship of Katoa and SOS. Plus can't question his effort - he puts everything into his game week in week out, even behind a shit team which would be hard.

Apart from being suspended and starting the year as a fatty, I think he's been pretty good this year.
I reckon he is cooked and apart from 1-2 decent games from his 6. even behind a dominant forward pack, he has been underwhelming at best.

If you compare his stats to Hunt's, who played in a team dominated by their opposition in every facet, Milf has been very average. Plus his discipline has cost us.

I reckon one area we are lacking is an attacking 2nd rower. Kafusi and Kenny are very defense-orientated, and kinda plain. Plus our benchies are much the same. Just someone to create some opportunities in the middle, particularly off the bench with some impact. Cartwright has been interesting particularly the last few games. Wonder what he would cost and if he would fit in as a interchange impact 2nd rower?

Also Wayne turned Lodge's career around and he was awesome for the Broncos under him. Another risky choice, but he wouldn't be worth that much right now surely? Like Cartwright, I reckon he could add a bit of flair we are missing up front - some offloads and hard running lines from him would compliment what JMK does and even giving Hammer a bit of 2nd phase play. Both are risky but I reckon could pick them up at unders.
