Woolf will back in Katoa for halfback

The 5/8 is very very open between Averillo, Nikorima, O'Sullivan and Donoghue.

Had Fuller been ready for seasons start I'm in no doubt it would have been Averillo.

Aside from Katoa going to next level, JMK playing the entire season and Gilbert injury free they need 3 other things especially since I can see Woolf regenerating the side

1. Keeley or Teague have a breakout season
2. At least one of Walsh, Naufahu or Nonu to have a breakout season
3. At least one of Waqa, Jackson or Rasmussen to have a breakout season
Like Bostock, Plath & Fuller enjoyed breakout years in 2024
all those said above i would highly douby they be getting much gametime in the top 17 unless majior injurys ( wich i hope for once isnt us )

nonu jackson waqqa walsh easily could step up but they need be there because of injurys

keely n kurt havent for mine shown enough to be in nrl full time yes they look flash in qld cup ( but they be there fulltime now if they were ) and to may in the way
with fin n gilbert full fit few may struggle

Ben Condon is a option to hes fairly handy to i see hes now with carpas

Keeley didn't have any breakout games in first grade but I thought he held his own just fine. With a few more kg this year, I think he's in for a big year or regular NRL.

So there's no misunderstanding I mean breakout where they go to another level eg what we saw from Plath, Bostock and Fuller last year. I know people love to twist what I say and just love to disagree for the sake of it.

In response to another post. I'm sure Nonu, Waqa, Jackson, etc are probably not near top 17 neither was Fuller but he had a breakout year. For the Dolphins to do well the next generation need to step up and be NRL ready. Whether they play or not is not relevant they need to be ready.

to make them breakout theres gotta be long term injruys like what has happened to get those said in the sid last year , so if injurys are plenty yes maybe but hope not

Depends how the team is traveling. If they are winning almost every game and don't have many injuries or suspensions, those young players won't play NRL. Also depends on how they are playing in Cup.

Yes correct. However I stand by my point of these players really need to have a breakout year where they are good enough to be playing NRL in case of injuries or state of origin. The Dolphins have had injuries the last two years and they need the depth to cover. I do think some spots will open up with a chance of Averillo playing in the halves, Fuller probably not being right by the time Hammer plays Origin game 1 and some of the forwards aging.

Last year Lemuelu form wasn't even of QCup standard he didn't have competition for his spot and kept it by being very average. A player like Keeley needs to be smashing the door down.

Waqa and Jackson need to make the next step up so when the forwards run out of legs it's a seamless progression. I don't think the Dolphins can have all of Kaufusi, Nicholls, Bromwich and Stone in the 17 every week at best probably only two.

If Averillo transitions to the halves the competition for that outside back spot will be competitive a chance for another Bostock style emergence to happen and who puts themselves in the frame for when Hammer goes to Origin.

This is what I mean we need breakout players.

Katoa needs to go to elite level.

You seem reasonable sort of fan Josh.

If we get karl he won't half's.
and there is no way connie be outta the side ( lets think about it oryn couldnt get in the side when connie wasnt fit )

waqqa i see in qld cup for 18months as hes just come out of he juniors without playing qld cup

Jackson n Walsh are ready to step up

but i think you likely to see oryn n few others in cup side full time especailly with us losing players from cup side to we lack experience but hey that all bodes well for both sides

Connie was average last year. Aitken was far better. If both pick up from where they left off with Keeley on an upward trajectory and Lemuelu downward, I think it won't take long for Keeley to take Lemuelu's place. I hope Connie gets back to the form of the first half of 2023. In that case, he won't be going anywhere.

Oryn was 20 or 21 and Connie was 26.
means nothing his age , if oryns form was good enough he be there but hes not and wont be there unless majior injuries and i would be thinking he be fighting with fin to get the spot not connie he tends play more on fins side

A 20 year old forward in first grade is rare.

Lemuelu plays like an outside back who shifted to the forwards. He gets playing time because of a lack of options. If his lacklustre play continues, he will struggle to stay in first grade. His game awareness is basically nil and he struggles to bend the line on most occasions. Hopefully, he sorts these issues out in 2025.

Keeley is a player on the rise. He plays with the type of grit and toughness that Connie could only dream of. Oryn will be a key member of the squad from this year onwards.

Dolphins social media stepped up today with the signing session on the Sunshine Coast getting JMK, Nikorima, Herbie, Plath and Bostock without their shirts on as this is now totally forbidden at Red Hill :)

Woolf will be making his own decisions he won't allow players to take the easy way out or cruise through the year.

He has a chance. Competition for spots is good. I think he'll probably start before Oryn but I don't think it'll last long.
so what stopped oryn been there last year bar the coach that you think is changed him getting in nothing he be in qld cup most the season theres no way they be dropping connie
