Hindsight is a wonderful thing when coaching.

Whilst team selections and coaching are very easy after the game. I'm happy to go with what Woolf does.

Reason being, I can see that the players have responded to him, and in the midst of an injury crisis, seeing close to a full first grade squad out, we are putting up good efforts against sides higher then us. We score a heap of points, and don't get lazy in defense, even though the weight of injures mean we aren't getting the 2 points.

There are teams higher then us, that find it hard to score, aren't creative, cant beat top 8 sides or leak points. Thats not directed at any one side, its just that I am confident once we get some luck in the medical department.

People might suggest Woolf has made a wrong call here and there. Fact of the matter is, with all the bad luck surrounding injuries, it wouldn't matter who he put in, we are just missing too many.
Well said

Final 19 named earlier tonight. Averillo 5/8 and Fuller in the 19.
Just like almost everyone wanted. I think even with all the injuries, we are a chance. Need the backs to help a lot with making metres and Harrison Graham needs to be a tackling machine while he's on.

It’s close to the best possible side that can be named.

It's a good thing but any idea why Woolf named SOS to start with? Trying to cause a meltdown among supporters only then to say, "just joking"? I like his sense of humor!

LOL

I read the Dolphins official FB & IG pages after the original team named on Tuesday I never saw fans push back in such numbers that’s not normally reserved for Dolphins fans.

Another page posted the updated team list last night & comments all loving it.

Averillo wlll have lots of traffic aimed at him because Payten two plans are to get Nanai aiming at O’Sullivan which now be Averillo and open space to get Purdue on the outside.

Virtually the best possible side Woolf can come up I’m not 100% convinced Feagai is NRL standard but in his 4 games so far he’s been very solid and it’s his spot to lose he’s holding onto it very well.

Hope they do (aim lots of traffic at Averillo). He's always seemed like a strong defender to me. It's his attack I've been critical of.

Im glad you say that and praise his defence. At Bulldogs it was always an issue and even at Dolphins earlier this year and a lot of last year he was caught out in defence he was baked by Shibasaki (sp) earlier this year. He’s certainly made improvements for sure.

Averillo at Bulldogs always had the highlight reels never the 1% stuff. I always felt he was very poorly treated by all his coaches at Bulldogs with the exception of Michael Potter who backed him in the one position and showed him some love.

Yet in saying all this during his four years 2020-23 no one scored more tries than Averillo (Fox only played 2 of those years). He was probably our 4th or 5th best performed player during the games Potter was coach. The standout two were JMK & Burton whilst King & Fox went well.

I was disappointed Averillo was pushed aside at the Bulldogs but very happy he found a home at Dolphins. His best years is still ahead of him, he’s becoming more assured as a player as a perceived weakness at the Bulldogs was he was too within himself which as a spine player you need to have confidence & clear communication. All reports from Dolphins is that he’s really coming out of shell & developing more outward confidence to lead a team.

He came through the system as a 5/8 but was messed around by Barrett who tried to manufacture him as a halfback it set him and his confidence way back and when Potter got it back Gould & Ciraldo decided Hayze Perham was a better fullback & he was no longer required beyond 2023. Averillo was the clubs leading try scorer that year and IMO was the second best performed player that year after Jacob Preston.

Yes I’m a biased fan of Averillo and hope he really goes next level.

Whether Dolphins win or lose tonight Woolf has given them the best possible chance of winning tonight with the players he has available. I’m so excited to see how the Katoa, Averillo & Donoghoe 7-6-13 combo works as that should be the long term combo for Dolphins. I see Plath as a 9/13/14 middle & edge player again good flexibility.

On another note just how valuable are players like Averillo and Donoghoe in the top 30, salary cap & HIA eras where they can cover so many different roles without fuss and such flexibility. I can a time where they’ll be battling it out for the NSW 14 role with Connor Watson clearly not 9 and his game nowadays pretty much a 13 rather than the fixit utility he used to be same as Nikorima he’s evolved from a fixit to a 5/8 as he gets older.

Fingers and toes crossed Averillo nails this tonight.

I'm not sure if his decision making on when to come in or stay out is an issue but didn't think his one on one defence was.

The Dolphins recorded their greatest ever margin of victory the last time these two teams met. Circumstances have changed significantly for both clubs since that day. A victory tonight will bring their magic number down to 3. Despite the potential season destroying injury toll, the Dolphins still can field the likes of Katoa, Herbie and Hammer who are all modern day superstars. So, there is still hope.

Dolphins by 8
FTS- Naufahu
MOTM- Katoa.

MoM = Donoghue (Matt, he had a pretty average game last week. Expecting him to bounce back tonight.)

Kurt is playing out of position. He's the 3rd choice lock, maybe 4th. Played well considering that, IMO.
