I wouldn’t want Burton at 5/8th.

I reckon Galvin, is going to be that good. The point I want to make is that he is good at running at the line, which would complement Katoa.

I’d pay overs for him. And I’d give him a long term deal as well.

I don’t think Brown is worth 1.3mil.

However, you need to look at the halves market, a 10 year deal for a good player in the halves is good from an inflation point of view. What do you think other halves etc are going to want seeing the brown deal. 1.3mil in 5 years for a half will be the norm if not unders

Galvin is already a better 5/8 than Burton. But for a mil a year or more for an extended period........ It's a gamble.

No doubt a gamble. Agreed.

However, 1.3mil for a half is what we are going to have to do to solve our 5/8th prob.

It’s going to cost us
Unless we unearth our own superstar 5/8. With Kotoa not playing like he did last week but like he did in the test matches against very good opposition, I think we should be looking to get a 5/8 on the next tier down. Someone on more like 800~900k rather than 1.1~1.3 mil. Then spend the money elsewhere.

Agreed, but as a start up we are going to pay overs to get someone here. So, that 800 to 900k player will cost us 1.1. Thats kind of what I reckon.

Finger crossed it isn't the case. However, as a fan, even I am realistic in the fact our club is a relative unknown due to our newness, and our coach is a relative unknown in the NRL.

Every player except for Flegler that has signed for the Dolphins has either been unwanted by their former clubs or not chased by anyone else or in the cases of Katoa and Teague straight out of SG Ball.

Before I get shouted down about Herbie that was a classic own goal by the Broncos management and ego played so much into that by Walters and Dongahy. Dolphins were trying to get Mariner and Broncos reported Dolphins for breaching the anti-tampering rules and Broncos doubled down by re-signing him to prove a point. Both Gamble and Cobbo went on podcasts where both questioned Walters as a coach Cobbo's was far wider reaching and more damaging yet one was sacked and one was retained the more precious and more talented player kept.

In all this Dolphins cleverly worked out Herbie wasn't as wanted by the Broncos as it seemed and they nailed him. Herbie, Best and Staggs are probably the 2nd to 4th best centres in the NRL today give or take who's 2-3-4 yet Broncos didn't see it that way nor did their propaganda podcaster machine Denan Kemp who has since admitted error in judgement.

Dolphins upped it for Flegler as it was between them and Roosters in the end Dolphins won the battle.

All the rest have been cast off, unwanted or aging players that Bennett got a lot out of.

Bostock and Walsh have a very similar story in both were largely unwanted by Dragons after SG Ball yet they signed their sisters.

So unless Dolphins land a freak junior and I remember Gus Gould saying in 2022 about the Dolphins (it's on YouTube) that a pathways system can often take close to 10 years before it produces NRL ready talent they might need to bid overs for a 5/8 to compliment Katoa. Even though Redcliffe have been around for ages all the good juniors have been in club academies for years eg Toia, Te Kura, Oloapu.

Dolphins aren’t a new club. They had existing pathways.

I am actually from the bulldogs area. I was born in Auburn.

I went to school in Enfield. Liv d in Greenarce my whole young life.

I can tell you the Balmain junior comp and Canterbury Bankstown comp aren’t healthy.

Enfield feds, one of the biggest clubs in the region went bust 5/6 years ago. My son played for them.

So I think your talk of pathways seems miss guided in relation to your club.

Penrith/Parra and the Illawarra is where it’s at. Clubs like the dragons are just dumb.

The QLD system is pretty good. And the areas the dolphins are tapping into and have tapped into for years, are relatively healthy.

All in all though. League is a very small game, with a very mature age in the product life cycle. They need customer growth and participation badly. I see more EPL jersey on the streets then I do league. And that tells you everything you need to know
