Terrible news. Hopefully he recovers.

Injured Dolphins star Tom Flegler’s season all but over, concerns career in jeopardy

Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett says Tom Flegler may not play again this season and concedes there is a “real chance” the Queensland Origin prop’s career is in jeopardy due to a freak shoulder injury.

Bennett opened up about the frustration surrounding Flegler’s injury battle as the former Broncos enforcer fights to save his NRL career at the age of 24.
Flegler suffered nerve damage to his shoulder against the Wests Tigers in round 5 and was hoping to miss only a week after being ruled out of the Queensland derby against the Broncos.

But after missing the Battle of Brisbane in round 6, Flegler has not been seen since, with Dolphins medicos unable to identify a return date and conceding season-ending surgery is an option. The Dolphins are doing everything possible to get Flegler back on the park, but Bennett revealed his star recruit’s 2024 season, Origin series - and entire playing future - is under a cloud.

Asked if Flegler’s career is in danger, Bennett said: “It could be, it’s pretty serious. “We don’t think he will play this year and next year is another issue. “Nerves are a very difficult thing for doctors to treat, so we’re hoping Tom gets back on the field, but we don’t know when that could be. “The nerve just hasn’t come back to where it should be. “Hopefully his career is OK, but there is a real chance Tom may not play again.”

Terrible news regarding Flegler. Hopefully surgery in the off season can prolong his career. Rugby League takes no prisoners as we have seen countless times in the past.

We sure could use Flegs on the field. If not for his injury, the Dolphins would currently be sitting top 2. The pack is severely lacking without him.

Fingers crossed for Tom. I'm sure the focus now will be on getting him back. Forget about this year.

Dolphin facing long suspension for high shot, four others charged by MRC

Dolphins' utility Kurt Donoghoe will face three weeks on the sideline for a high shot during Sunday's loss to the St George Illawarra Dragons.

The tackle, which came during the second half of the 20-point loss, saw Donoghoe collect Dragons' prop Francis Molo high before being sent to the sin bin by referee Adam Gee and bunker official Gerard Sutton.

Donoghoe faces an elevated penalty because of his judiciary record, which now carries three or more offences in the rolling 12-month window. It means the utility will face a three-match ban with an early guilty plea, or four matches if he fights and loses at the judiciary.

The suspension comes at a cruel time for the Dolphins, who could also be without Jeremy Marshall-King in the coming weeks after the dummy half was unable to play out Sunday's game against the Dragons and was seen in a moon boot.

Dolphins coach Wayne Bennett says Jeremy Marshall-King’s season could be over as Redcliffe’s injury crisis threatens to derail their bid for a historic finals appearance.

This masthead understands Marshall-King may have suffered twin injuries to his foot, including a Lisfranc ligament tear, in a setback that could rule the star Dolphins hooker out for the rest of the season. Marshall-King will undergo scans on Tuesday but Bennett and club medicos are resigned to the classy 28-year-old not appearing in Dolphins colours again this year.

I watched part of the reply yesterday. Donoghoe, Plath, Fuller all had significant time playing dummy half. None of them were any good but Fuller was the best of them.

Plath would be the logical solution as the cupboard is pretty bare. K Bromwich is probably the new lock. None of it is ideal as the season slowly falls apart.

I like Plath. Good lock. Had a few blinders earlier in the season. Having to do too much work now. But I don't like him as a hooker. Prefer Donoghoe. After a lot of training passing from dummy half for the next 2 weeks.

Problem being though is that Donoghoe is suspended for the next three weeks. He would definitely be in consideration if not for the infraction.
