I very much doubt that. They out bid the highly sought after Kikau, Mahony, Burton, Crighton, JAC. 5 big name recruits.
Highest paid players are Crichton and Burton who are both in the 825-850 range.

Players like Leo Thompson are taking 200k pay cuts to join the Bulldogs culture.

Huge money for a centre. Leo Thompson is reported to be on 825k. I can't figure out which team would pay him more than that. He's a good prop but far from one of the best. 825k is reasonable for him.

That’s the line they feed to the media, while Laundy buys them a pub.

Gould is number 1 not because of cap management. More because he knows the system well enough to hide it.

There is no point to this discussion, as other clubs like the Roosters and Broncos of the past have done it. The NRL would prefer no one to question, as their cash cow would become mud if the truth were known.

I’m a person that prefers just to talk rugby league. Because talk of expert cap management is a farse for mine. The Salary cap rules and policing are half arsed.

So let’s not put a club that has had 31 points stripped in the past, on a cap high ground. Especially in a league that doesn’t want the public to know clubs cheat. You have to be fucking dumb to get caught and punished by the nrl.

Canberra offered Thompson 800, Newcastle offer was somewhere around the 700 mark and Gould's offer was very close to 600. In the end Thompson wants to win a premiership and the Bulldogs by 2026 will be in a prime position but the Gus factor comes into play still one of the best coaches & mentors going around.

Gus just signed another player today a boom prop from NZ meaning he's going have to find a way to cut Oloapu who's still contracted for another two years at 350k per season. If the Dolphins only come in at 130k per season the Bulldogs have to still pay the remaining balance out of their cap.

According to Zero Tackle, Canterbury are paying Thompson 815k a year. As for Canberra, people don't want to live there.

When it comes to Bulldogs Gus always leaks to certain journos
You think he doesn't have an interest in feeding them incorrect info? "Players come to us because they admire our culture and the way we've been so successful over the last decade".

Is Canberra that bad? I've never been there.
Canberra is a wonderful city with four very distinct seasons it's by far the biggest inland city in Australia more than 4 times the population of the next biggest being Toowoomba. Canberra cops a bad wrap due to politicians but it's quite a nice place I love going there.
