Recruitment and Retention for 2027

He'll get at least one, probably 2, possibly 3 contracts after this. I don't think the length of this contract is going to worry him. But I guess depends on his outlook on life. Is he married? That's the kind of thing to keep one staying in one place and want a long contract as a result.
Younger they are the length of contract is more strategic then an insurance. Is there a new team coming in? can i push for more money with demand, is there a rise in the salary cap forecast. Agents generally fall end of contracts around those types of things, to ensure negotiations are in the clients favour.

Sometimes they get ratchet clauses in long contracts to cover rises in the cap, I honestly think Herbie will stay he’s happy at the dolphins.

Yep even Connor Treacy at Bulldogs got a ratchet clause lol so a player of Herbie's standing will be offered a rise if the cap rises.

I heard at least the top players are not paid a fixed sum but as a % of the overall cap.

Yesh it ends up being that way. And they end up getting into trouble as a club when the player is older.

Look at Latrell. Last 4 years i thonk the most games he has played in a season is 11. Amd he takes up a huge chunk of the cap.
