As showed by the awards picked by the club the 3 standout players were Herbie, Katoa and Donga all assured of a place in the Dolphins 17 next season barring injury or suspension regardless of who is or isn't available.

So who misses out going the fact he won a award last season , not going help him in this season and I going say it nicely. High end contracts won't want to be sitting out of the 17 like trai he be injury cover again like seleyn will be your not even a fan of Dolphins 🙄 so not sure why you want remove guys that were in the side at start last season.

Just shows you what depth we have we put Kurt in at the start of tve season we going see big names move as Plath Gilbert Knowles n co ain't going sit behind hin

I know he missed several games due to his hamstring issue but Crighton and Staggs also missed a few as far as I know and Herbie's form was so good when he was fit, I thought surely he deserved one of the Dally M team of the year centre spots. Bostock would have also been right up there for a wing spot if he played a few more games. Other than that, no big surprises. I guess Donoghue had played too many games previously to be eligible for Rookie of year.

Only Dolphins players eligible for rookie are Naufahu and Tawha. Donga made his debut before Plath, Bostock and Fuller.

Katoa was robbed. Herbie a tad unlucky Staggs been in beast mode right end of the season, Staggs also out played Herbie convincingly in their head to head battle early this year and Crichton is a generational talent who carried the Bulldogs way too many times.

Dally M awards been a farce for the last 5-6 years at least maybe longer. It’s voted by drunk journos and various quota groups some don’t even watch the game like Hammer getting a point last year v Cowboys and Braidon Burns getting points when Manly crushed Cowboys in round 1 this year.

Terry Lamb has always said the 3 players player of the year awards he won meant more to him than the Rothmans or Dally M awards he won as it was judged by the players. The players chose Katoa and Herbie for halfback & centre that mean more to them than what journos & woke quotas come up with.

How can Tapine get over looked for captaincy awards due to a suspension? That’s how disgraceful the system has become.

I thought it was based on the number of NRL games one has played before the season in question, not when one debuted.

Donga played something like 17-18 games for Dolphins first two seasons well past the 5 range.

The journalist don’t get a vote now all changed few years ago. Paul Kent has a podcast about the rothmans and dally m this week not a bad listen.

Who votes now?

That many? I don't think it was even close to that. He played the first 2 or 3, came on at hooker and we were saying on this forum what a crap hooker he was. Then he had a long stint in QLD Cup and I think played 2 or 3 more last year, also coming on at hooker. Maybe have been a couple of one-off appearances in first grade but I'd guess not more than 10 total before this year.

two independent judges edge game that are picked from ex players through players union, then those players through every game n round judge overall

i belive some have been ex nrl players that are comentators , but your not allowed to be employed by nrl or nsw or qld or any club

Red Red just checking up the various stats pages.

2023 - 7 games (6 interchange, 1 hooker)
2024 - 9 games (all interchange)
16 all up. He was picked for 18 games he didn't get on against Titans in 2023 and Sharks in 2024. RLP says he played 18 games across those 2 seasons all others correctly say 16.

In 2023 he played rounds 1-3, 6-9 (didn't get on in Rd8) & Rd.15. He played 16 games for Capras in 2023 4 at 5/8, 1 at centre & last 11 at lock.

In 2024 he was suspended round 1, played Rd2-5 (bye in Rd3), suspended rounds 7-8, played Rd 9-11 & 13, bye Rd14, not used Rd.15 & played Rd.17 where he was suspended & banished to Capras after that incident. 5 of his 6 Capras games in 2024 came after the return from suspension.

This year 22 games for Dolphins and 2 out injured (vs Raiders & Roosters) didn't play for Capras. First 7 on interchange, next 3 started at hooker (Graham on bench in all 3) and last 12 at lock.

Useless trivia Dolphins are 1 player short of fielding a best 1-13 to make their NRL debuts at Dolphins :)

1 Fuller 2023
2 McGrady 2023
3 Bostock 2023
4 Te Whare 2023
5 Naufahu 2025
6 Donoghoe 2023
7 Katoa [c] 2023
8 Hubner 2024
9 Graham 2023
10 Tawha 2025
11 Teague 2023
12 Plath 2023

2 have twice made it to 18th without getting on Nonu and Walsh.

in 2024 Sebastian Su'a made his NRL debut after the Knights activated him as their 18th man, following the loss of Tyson Frizell due to foul play. He came on 59th minute was sin binned 71st minute.

Hi G Gary I didn't watch his latest podcast but the caption read something like RIP Dally M's which been the case for years now. The voting system is a farce apparently ex players are judges and some of them would no doubt include some hitting CTE stage great players not great analysts none hold a candle to Peter Sterling's analysis commentary and the best 3 Fox have wheeled out this year been Johnson, Foran and Katoa. They don't even publish the names of the judges after Hammer got a point last year vs Cowboys in the 43-18 loss.

Cleary edged Katoa by a vote for 2nd spot. I read some silly comments how no Dolphins players deserved recognition because they didn't make the 8 Roosters finished one win yes one win above them and had the Dally M winner & fullback, winger & rookie and were only a Herbie hammy or Manly self implosion away from missing the semis.

Okay. You definitely know about Kurt Donoghue better than I.

More importantly, next year. What a situation to be in. FIVE high quality locks. Not in any particular order:
  • Donoghue
  • Knowles
  • Plath
  • Gilbert
  • Stone
For attack, Donoghue is the best. For defence, Gilbert. As a combination of the two, Plath. No one is tougher than Stone. I don't know about Knowles, only that the coach rates him highly.
