Tevita Pangai Jnr on track to make his Dolphins debut

Tevita Pangai Jnr quipped Wayne Bennett told him he loved him but still sought assurances Pangai’s head and heart were fully invested in his latest comeback. The flighty forward had his first training session with the Dolphins on Monday and is set to be rushed into Friday’s game against the Storm at Suncorp Stadium if a slight hamstring issue subsides. “Hopefully Wayne picks me against the Storm on Friday. It will be a good test for me,’’ Pangai Jnr said.

Pangai Jnr seemed destined never to return to rugby league when he exited his last deal with the Bulldogs and took up boxing, even suggesting he wanted to be his own boss after having enough of being bossed around by halfbacks and coaches. He now insists those words were just an attempt to sell tickets to his boxing bouts. Dolphins mentor Bennett is the one senior coach Pangai Jnr has clicked with and he has signed the 28-year-old with the Dolphins after monitoring his form and mindset for (Brisbane) Souths.

Probably a good time to play Melbourne though I think they only have 2 players in Origin. Grant (big loss for them) and Coats.

I am going to go out on a limb and say he is going to kill it for us, and he will be signed to a longer contract by us at the end of the season.

I am involved in another sport at a youth development level. And as you probably all know, most sports are about getting a tune out of a player/person. And as a coach or manager, your most important trait needs to be able to deal with all types of players rather than your experience in the game.

I think TPJ is a complex character, and probably very hard to get a tune out of. Wayne and Wolff, as I have read on here before, seemed to be able to channel his performance, whereas others he has played for haven't.

Few minutes in Cup sounds even worse. Like a single set at NRL speed. But I'm sure Wayne knows what he is doing so should be fine.

as we know with what happened with val both him n woolf got no time for unfit players so i would suggest if hes in line to be picked he be fit enough on how they want use them which i sure be of bench

Agree. When he played for the Broncos, he had impact but opposition would keep running at him and his impact would very quickly become a non-issue for the other team.

Storm have been surprisingly good this year. I thought they were a fringe top 4 side but when Munster went down, I thought a fringe top 8 team. So much for that. Good test for us.

Wouldn’t take no notice of hooper the bloke makes shit up left right and centre.
I agree Hooper makes stuff up but in this case, there is a lot of smoke for there to be no fire. Aitken is a case in point and also the way Souths are widely reported to have been trying to get JMK.
It’s fine, and I’d like to see Wolff be more involved as Bennett gets closer to leaving
I'd like to see that from Wolff too but don't like Wayne planning for Souths while still coaching us. I could see the team falling badly from now as a result.

Aitken wants 2-3 year deal dolphins turned him down. We are pretty stacked in the back row. So he’s free to negotiate. JMK choose to stay , with us , hooper throws that many darts at the board , latest is cheese going to Souths. He spouts shit everyday

No way would we entertain 3 years for him. 1 years extension would be perfect, 2 years is a stretch. 3 years is a bridge too far. But does Bennett have anything to do with the negotiations of him going to Souths? He shouldn't have.
