I reckon once Molo gets match fitness, when Flegler returns (it's when whether mid season or next year) or if Allen can keep going strong at Redcliffe a transition will happen.

Kerr is so needed off the bench.
Allen won't be nrl level

You are correct there but Liverbird with Phins up Liverbird with Phins up tried to say Gould recruited Cleary back for the 2019 season that wasn't the case. Cleary put on his conditions for return no Gould involvement or controlling. Penrith had decided Gould's time was up and he left them with an incredible platform for the success they enjoyed. Imagine Gould with access to Norths, Redcliffe, Wide Bay, Central Queensland and Sunshine Coast the Dolphins would be on another planet.
Dude, those conditions are normal for any manager.

I love how everything in the paper is fact.

Gould got Cleary over. You're trying to say he had nothing to do with it. Bullshit!

Was Gould in charge of the club that got Cleary from the Tigers? Did Gould make the approach? Fuck me. I physically saw Gould and Cleary, with my own eyes, at Newington (near silverwater jail) chatting about.

I get it, you surf the internet all day, read shit and post it as fact.

The junior system, which was already there, has set them up.

Fuck me you have your own head up your ass.

This is the point, anyone with that would be seen as good, because it's the foundation for sucess. Only a moron would fuck it up.

Unfortunately, there are plenty of morons in the NRL.

And most of those morons are fooled into believing Gould is a Messiah.

And as you wrongly said, Gould set up Penrith. BHAHAHAHAHA. The junior system set them up. Its fucking massive.

I'll give Gould a few things.

He is a great TV personality for his target market.

- He speaks semi eloquently. So, to the masses, he sounds intelligent, and when you speak with confidence and articulately, most people automatically think you know what you're talking about. It's great for TV and the NRL community.

He manages his career well

- He is a master of taking on a good job, that will get him places. He has an eye for what will be successful for his career. He is a master at this, and it's the only way to get places in life. I remember NSW going through a rough patch, everyone calling for Gould to comeback and coach. He knew to stay well away. Gould did what was best for Gould, and good on him. It makes him look like the Messiah to the untrained eye. He isn't, he is good at climbing that ladder.

He knows how to win friend and influence people.

- Part of managing his career, and being articulate means he gets people on side, especially with his personality.

He also does know football. However, most people with a brain would know their field if they work in it their whole life.

Gould absolutely opposed Cleary returning to Penrith he wanted a coach he could control that's how Gould operates. This is why Gould hired Ciraldo to Canterbury because Gould has total control in recruitment, retention, decisions and key selections. Ciraldo will eventually want full control and be interesting to see how Gould navigates all this he like Bennett will be involved within the power corridors until the day they die.

The Penrith chairman at the time went and signed Cleary back to the club. The board weren't happy Gould sacked Griffin when they were top 4. What Gould done setting up the Panthers academies that produced 5 grand finals & 4 premierships and the way he's put Canterbury into the window so quickly and they have gun Flegg & Ball teams is a credit to his strengths. Gould does have the odd weakness and how he handled Griffin wasn't one of his finest moments and Cleary didn't want him around. Penrith board knew Gould's time was up they couldn't execute him so hired Cleary to do that.

Gould set them up well he done his job and doing exactly the same at Canterbury except he'll be there for the Grand Finals and Premierships.

Club officials are always photographed like politicians aren't too doesn't meant they like or support each other. Cleary has documented everything in his book about Gould and the Panthers approaching him.

Gould has had spectacular fallouts with Stuart, Politis and Cleary. The one with Politis was over the Mitchell-Manu incident in his position as a Channel 9 commentator.

He started making noises about "how his job was done" in order to put a brave face on him basically being sacked.

He (Gould) wants to speak to me, I have no reason to speak to him.

They may have dressed it up for you to escape sanction. But behind the scenes, Gould tampered. Get over it, it happened. What you're reading are stories put in the media to prove innocence. However, Gould tampered, which I originally posted, and what this discussion is about. Does everyone do it? Probably. But you can't fool me with this bull crap.

Dodgy as fuck Gould also warned Cleary about taking the Tigers job (in the media) from memory as well. Conflict of interest and insider trading again.

Phil Gould’s call of Tigers games under threat due to fan’s outrage over attempts to sign Ivan Cleary

Nine will broadcast the Wests Tigers’ Round 24 match against Manly at Campbelltown and the following game against the Rabbitohs at ANZ Stadium, both Thursday night TV games.

The Panthers general manager has infuriated Wests Tigers fans by trying to convince Cleary to break his contract at the Wests Tigers as a replacement for Anthony Griffin.

“It’s not something we need to speculate on now,” said Nine’s director of Sport Tom Malone, “We’ll make a decision on what’s best for the broadcast.”

There is an obvious concern about security at Campbelltown given the level of anger of Wests Tigers fans who are accusing Gould of sabotaging their season and Cleary’s rebuilding program at Concord.

Wests Tigers supporters have savaged Gould and Penrith chairman Dave O’Neill on social media since it was revealed they were targeting Cleary to coach his son Nathan at Penrith.

Gould told Griffin when he sacked him on Monday that the club had made the decision to get Cleary.

Nine has security staff at every game for their commentators but they are rarely needed.

Malone says: “It’s more an editorial decision than a security issue.

“We’ll look at the roster and see who’s best suited for each game. I don’t know if we’ll send him to Campbelltown. If it’s not Gus it’s not Gus.

“He didn’t call Thursday night in Townsville. He doesn’t call every match and we can be flexible with all our commentators.”

Success as a coach when he was doing that. He could have been the master coach if he stayed at it.

Katoa quashes Sydney scuttlebutt, confirms Blues dream
By Joel Gould AAP

Prodigious halfback talent Isaiya Katoa has no intention of leaving the Dolphins and has rubbished suggestions he is considering moving back to Sydney to continue his career.

The 21-year-old has, however, confirmed why playing for NSW at State of Origin level, as Blues great Andrew Johns predicted he would do for a decade, is a long-held goal.

Katoa is signed at the Dolphins until the end of 2028 and plays his best football under his club and Tonga coach Kristian Woolf.

The possibility of Manly captain and halfback Daly Cherry-Evans linking with the Dolphins next year had led to Sydney media speculation that Katoa, a Penrith junior, was angling to return south.

"I don’t know where that chat came from but I am definitely not going back to Sydney," Katoa said after shining in the 30-12 win over Penrith on Thursday night.

"I love the Dolphins and playing under a coach like Woolfy. I feel my best footy is definitely played under Woolfy.

"The trust he instils in me, the only way I can repay it is by playing well so I am definitely not going anywhere.

"My family love it here and moved here from Sydney. My partner loves it up here as well."

New Zealand-born Katoa moved to Sydney when he was nine and played his juniors with Glenmore Park Brumbies before rising through the Panthers system. He qualifies to play Origin football for NSW and was humbled by Johns's praise in his newspaper column.

"It is great to receive comments like that, especially from someone like Joey Johns," Katoa said.

"As a kid I knew I was eligible for (Origin) and in the back of my mind it was always a dream. What if one day I would be able to represent the NSW Blues?

"I know that only comes by playing good footy with the Dolphins and there are still so many areas of my game I need to work on."

Former Penrith and NSW playmaker Jamie Soward and idol Nathan Cleary are two Blues that inspired Katoa.

"Obviously, being a Penrith junior, Sowie was there when I was fairly young and I saw his development as a player," Katoa said.

"Nathan has been awesome as a mentor. I don’t speak to him much but when I do you can tell how calm he is.

"It is just his presence on the field. One thing I took out of his game last year, when they beat us (28-26) with his field goal after being down by 12, was the only way they got back in the game was because he was on the ball, demanding it and making plays."

Katoa wasn't happy with the way he finished 2024 and worked on his defence and running game in the pre-season, both qualities which have impressed this year.

His tackle efficiency is 87.2 per cent and he is averaging 105m per game, both career highs.

In the 36-10 win over the Gold Coast in round five he ran for 193m.

"It was more of a mindset change for me, just wanting the ball in my hands," he said.

"The way I can do that is by organising shape where I get my hands on the ball more and play out the front rather than sitting behind the forwards and waiting for the ball."

We finally got there.

After putting fact in front of you.

You didn’t say he had integrity, but you implied it, and then held him in high regard whilst talking him up to be a god. I was just trying to bring you back to reality mate. Now that he is a mere mortal, we can leave that he is dodgy as fuck, and that I wouldn’t want him near anything I support.

Yes, he has success. However check my post about choosing the right jobs brother. Could he do the same at the Dragon? No, and he rejected their flirtation many times, and made every excuse under the Sun not to take their rich advances. Yes he has success, but easy one’s. It’s like Bayern Munich, winning everything in a shit league. Gould doesn’t back long shots.

One thing I can’t argue with is his success. He has won shit. But remember, he has chosen well. And credit to him.

In his short coaching career, he has so much success it isn't funny.

With all due respect … how do you know when a player is NRL ready? Do you even know anything about these players and their history or experience? Just because they haven’t played NRL yet doesn’t mean they are not ready.n the other
because done my homework hes been in 3 diffrent nrl clubs ( this been his third ) and has struggled to get in to nrl sides due to injury and not been good enough to make north qlds 30 , hes nearly 24 and i think the fact hes a ex nrl players son, is probbally the only reason why hes getting pushed more , he also has few on field rage moments that seen him have lots of stints on side line

but see i do know a lot about him yes maybe talent but at his age i think qld cup be where he sticks
lets face it with weak forward pack cowboys had and was no room there will make you wonder

but tell me why he should be there seems your more well informed

Well said P Positive2025!

Props can also take time to mature. He's already so far ahead of Michael Waqa who has a Top 30 contract and now fizzling out whereas Josh Allen is on the upward direction.

Dolphins have four middles that have gone on one year too many or coming to that stage so opportunities will open up.
