Close defeats like that are the hardest to stomach. Has anyone seen a replay of that last 6 again call to the Raiders? Some comments:
  • Jordan Rapana up against Jennings had a field day.
  • Jennings' multiple mistakes last week weren't an anomaly. He backed it up and then some yesterday.
  • As Blockade Blockade mentioned above, in the first 30min WTF were the forwards doing? They were just rolling forward with ease. Every set was ending in an attacking kick.
  • As Dolph Dolph mentioned above, Katoa's kicking game was really poor. I understand he doesn't want to give away a 7 tackle set but there is a large difference between that and landing the kick 30m out.
  • Brenko Lee was on the field. I know because midway through the second half he went off with a hammy issue. Not a loss at all IMO. Niu to centre and Edrick Lee or Bostock on the wing. Would be a tough game against some good outside backs for Bostock but nothing to lose at this stage.

They didn't replay it on the live match so I rewound Kayo. It was a tackle all day every day, not even close to playing at the ball.

I wonder if we will hear anything more about it this week. Even though it wasn't replayed live, we were blowing up about it.

As dirty as I am about the 6 again call, I gotta say our defense at the end of the 2nd half to stop them scoring before the siren was absolutely incredible. After almost 80 mins I can't believe they held that last attack out, I thought for sure Canberra would score. That's some very promising stuff right there, especially when it comes to finals type footy.

3. Lemelu
2. Aitken
1. JMK

Nikorima was close - I thought he had another great game but just didn't get enough ball because of possession.

True but they were getting on the attack far too easily.

x2 though I haven't checked the stats yet but wouldn't be surprised if Wallace was good again! Jesse Bromwish also made plenty of metres in his second stint.

Haven't seen it but if a player touches the ball when not in possession of an opposition player, he's deemed to have played at the ball and 6 again is the right call.

I'd like to her an explanation as to why Aiken played the ball incorrectly and lost the challenge.

Are you sure about that? I thought the rule was if you are attempting a tackle and happen to touch the ball, whether you have hands on the player or not, it is a penalty? Otherwise, so long as the attacking player passes it backwards on purpose, directly into someone who is about to tackle him, it would be 6 again and easy to manipulate.

Browhich was awesome too - I was tossing up between him and JMK - but JMK made 51 tackles and did some good stuff in attack, so I gave to him. JMK is so important, not only is he the cornerstone for the momentum of our entire attack and creating attacking opportunities, he is an absolute workhorse in defense and always the top tackler. And he plays 80 minutes. Absolute gun.

The bulldogs paid big $$$ for Mahoney, in hindsight I bet they wished they kept JMK. I reckon this season he has outplayed Mahoney and every other hooker in the game except Grant. He is also so consistent, never had a bad game.

Bulldogs paying big money for Mahony rather than much less for JMK was a massive mistake.

JMK started showing signs of this type of form in the later stages last year. Mahoney was killing it when they signed him. Api was top of the pack for Penrith but has struggled for the Tigers since in their team dynamics. Even Brandon Smith has been a a bit underwhelming for the Roosters. But then you have the Broncos getting rid of Martin for Walsh, which considering the difference in $$$ I thought was a bad idea originally.

It must be so hard weighing up a players worth to how they can gel within a new team vs what a current player's potential is when it comes to recruitment. I guess that is why guys like Cyril were so important in a club. It is a hard job trying to balance players worth within a salary cap, except if you don't have a cap like the Roosters.

Excuse me but who was Martin?

That's true but as far as I know, we are getting excellent value for money out of:
  • JMK
  • Lemuelu
  • Aitken
  • Gilbert
As far as I know, there was hardly any kind of bidding war for these 4 if any other club wanted them at all.

JENNINGS ROLLERCOASTER WOULD HAVE BENNETT FEELING WEARY

Tesi Nui’s expected return from a knee injury for Magic Round can’t come soon enough for Wayne Bennett. Heading into his 900th game as an NRL coach, you’d imagine Bennett would be keen to get a rest from the Robert Jennings rollercoaster after another eventful afternoon in Wagga Wagga.

A week after Jennings gave the Dolphins coaching staff heart palpitations after he stayed on the ground with no one near him to bomb a certain try in the comeback win over the Titans, the rocks and diamonds winger produced so more crazy moments that would have given Bennett nightmares.

You can’t question his effort, and he’s certainly got a nose for a try, but it’s everything else that comes with it that can make it more than a little nerve racking.
