DOLPHINS V ROOSTERS

Sunday 5 March, Suncorp Stadium

Dolphins:1. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow 2. Jamayne Iassko 3. Euan Aitken 4. Tesi Niu 5. Robert Jennings 6. Anthony Milford 7. Sean O’Sullivan 8. Jesse Bromwich 9. Jeremy Marshall-King 10. Mark Nicholls 11. Felise Kaufusi 12. Kenny Bromwich 13. Tom Gilbert

Bench: 14. Kodi Nikorima 15. Ray Stone 16. Jarrod Wallace 17. Herman Ese’ese

Early Mail: For a new-look line-up, the Dolphins’ starting side looks fairly settled. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow, Anthony Milford, Sean O’Sullivan and Jeremy Marshall-King will make up the spine. This will force exciting youngster Isaiya Katoa to bide his time in QLD Cup.

Euan Aitken will make the move back to centre in 2023 where he’ll start alongside either Tesi Niu or Brenko Lee. Edrick Lee suffered an ankle injury at training and will miss a month of action, opening up a spot on the wing for Robert Jennings. Tom Gilbert will be the 13, with Ray Stone playing off the bench.

Yesterday, Jennings had a bad game as well.

I like the idea of Aitken on the bench, coming on in the forwards or backs in the event of injury but our outside backs are a big problem this year. So I guess it's right to move Aitken to centre.

The Hammer at fullback, Jennings and Milford are a concern.

  1. Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow (learn to pass much better)
  2. Jack Bostock (Has he been promoted to top 30?)
  3. Tesi Niu (might excel)
  4. Brenko Lee (Get back to the form of a few years ago)
  5. Jamayne Isaako (Could be a good winger if he gives up trying to be a fullback)
  6. Anthony Milford (Lets see if he can wind back the years)
  7. Sean O’Sullivan (Was our best in the trials)
  8. Jesse Bromwich (As for MIlf)
  9. Jeremy Marshall-King (Underrated)
  10. Mark Nicholls (As for #6 and #8)
  11. Felise Kaufusi (As for #6, 8 and 10)
  12. Kenny Bromwich (Good buy for 2 years)
  13. Tom Gilbert (Probably our best forward this year)
  14. Kodi Nikorima (Good utility player)
  15. Euan Aitken (Think he might start in the centres)
  16. Jarrod Wallace (Must be putting serious pressure on #10 for a starting spot)
  17. Ray Stone (Underrated. Good buy.)

Analysis: The Dolphins recruitment has been heavily scrutinised, with Wayne Bennett failing to secure a marquee superstar. However, even without a million-dollar player, the NRL’s newest franchise were able to secure a draw in their first appearance, but will be disappointed with their display against the Titans, conceding 40 points. The forward pack of Tom Gilbert, Kenny Bromwich, Felise Kaufusi, Mark Nicholls, Jeremy Marshall-King and Jesse Bromwich is set in stone, but the remaining bench spots remain a mystery. Ray Stone, Kodi Nikorima and Jarrod Wallace look set to ride the pine, with Euan Aitken and Herman Ese’ese fighting it out for the final spot. Ese’ese played in the No.17 jersey against the Gold Coast, but Aitken may be the man to win the shirt come Round 1. Meanwhile, young gun Jack Bostock could beat out Robert Jennings for a spot on the wing, with Jamayne Isaako likely taking the other wing position. Brenko Lee and Tesi Niu are set to play in the halves with Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow at the back. Edrick Lee looks set for a return in Round 3 after suffering an ankle injury. Young gun Isaiya Katoa is also pushing for a spot in the halves, but Bennett may hold the 19-year-old playmaker back and partner Anthony Milford and Sean O’Sullivan in the halves.

According to the Dolphins homepage, you are right. Jack Bostock isn't in the top 30. Euan Aitken, Brenko Lee and Tesi Niu are all out and out centres so not sure if Aitken will come into the 17. Don't rule out Tesi Niu fullback, Aitken centre, the Hammer on the wing.

The Hammer is going to get first shot at fullback. If he screws it up, Niu might replace him but it won't be for round 1. It will be round 4 or 5 at the earliest barring injury.

Who was the kid in the trials think he was second row Lachlan something? He looked promising for the future. The forward look a decent mix but where is the next generation

Was it the centre, "Lemuelu"? No idea who he is. A 24 year-old recruit from NZ. Maybe he was a Rugby Union player.

We signed Lemuelu from the cows where he played the past two seasons. I thought he was a pretty good pick up.

And hello, found the forum via Google search.

Good analysis. Euan Aitken is pretty slow for a centre but with guys like Isaako and Tabuai-Fidow, taht shouldn't be a big problem. Even Brenko Lee is pretty quick. He played winger for a long time.
