I'm a huge Rhys Walsh fan, and although he has a couple of rookie errors in him sometimes, but I personally reckon he deserves #2 spot. He's just made such a huge difference to the Broncos this year and would've nudged player of the series in origin if he didn't miss the last match.

Riki at #23 is just bizarre - he's improved heaps this year, but he's not even close to some of the others below him.

Katoa at 26 is also strange. I don't think he has shown anywhere near enough for us yet to be in this echelon, unless it is based on potential not current form.
I agree with Katoa and Riki.

As far as Walsh, you may be right. I haven't seen so much of the Broncos this year. But I saw a game a few weeks against another heavyweight. Was it Penrith? The Broncos lost convincingly and Walsh but very average at best. Not just because of errors but because he couldn't break the line or tackles. Was getting pushed back. His only play was the sweep play out the back but Penrith even had that covered.

Yep he wasn't his usual self that game. He played ok and setup their only try, but without Reynolds in attack their spine was a bit lost. The Panthers did a great job targetting him in defense, especially kicking to him and then smothering him via Cleary.

Speaking of Riki, is he out injured now? Because I don't think he'll be taking Piakura's spot anytime soon and Capewell is vc. He might find himself on the market at the end of this season. Might be wroth trying to pick up if Broncos are paying part of his salary.

Nah he is in the squad, Piakura just playing better than him, especially today he's been unreal.

Best NRL prospects at every club

JAMES WALSH

Age: 18
Position: Back row/centre
A Dragons junior, the Dolphins poached Walsh to Redcliffe a month ago. A tough-as-nails backrower who can pinch hit at centre, Walsh has already progressed from Colts to the Hostplus Cup and is tipped to be a long-time NRL player.

RYAN JACKSON

Age: 19
Position: Front row
Another emerging prop, Jackson started in the front for Queensland in the under-19s Origin. Jackson made his Hostplus Cup debut early in the season and has played 13 games in Queensland’s top competition. He is on track to make his NRL debut for the Dolphins next year.

Ressies set to break into NRL

TRAI FULLER — Dolphins

(One NRL game)

After carving up Queensland Cup last season, livewire fullback Trai Fuller is waiting for his next opportunity in the NRL. The 26-year-old caught the attention of Wayne Bennett while playing for the Dolphins’ reserve grade side and rewarded with an NRL debut in August and a train-and-trial for the rest of the season. He is again on a train-and-trial with the Dolphins for 2024. Fuller was crowned the Queensland Cup Player of the Year after scoring 14 tries, setting up 11 and recording 20 linebreaks in 17 games. He also topped the tackle bust count for the competition with an average of eight a game to go with his average of 167 running metres per game. With 82 Queensland Cup games now under his belt, Fuller is more than ready for more game time in the NRL.

We all saw he's a very good player in attack. I think his defence along with a lot of depth in the backs will see him continue to dominate in the QLD Cup but probably not get much NRL.

RYAN JACKSON (Dolphins)

Prop
He may be 20-years-old, but Jackson is a throwback to front-rowers of the past and has started all three Queensland Cup games for the Dolphins this year. A hard worker who is not scared to show his grit in the middle, holding a 93 per cent tackle efficiency to open his year.

Hoping he gets a chance sooner rather than later.

They can promote anyone into the top 30 if there's a position vacant. I think after round 10 they can also pick one of the 6 max development players.

The development player can't sign a top 30 contract and play NRL unless there's a position vacant. Clubs would normally look to sign someone that isn't a development player because they are already going to be available after round 10 anyway.

State of Origin Maroons U19s: Club affiliations and analysis

LJ NONU

  • NRL affiliate: Dolphins
  • School: Ipswich State High
  • Age: 18
  • Impressive at fullback in the Mal Meninga Cup, the backline talent has since scored two tries in three games at Qld Cup level.

MICHAEL WAQA

  • NRL affiliate: Dolphins
  • School: Wavell State High
  • Age: 19
  • A local Redcliffe product who joined the Dolphins on a train and trial deal during the pre-season last year, but the powerful prop has been outstanding as he moves through the grades.

ZAC GARTON

  • NRL affiliate: Dolphins
  • School: Caloundra State High
  • Age: 18
  • A tough young second rower working his way through the Dolphins system, his got footwork and power has him earmarked for NRL.

I think only about half of these boys will ever play NRL but still isn't great result for us, IMO. Only 3 in the team. Broncos have 6, Cowboys have 4, Storm have 3 (that's right, they're a QLD team as well) and the other QLD powerhouse, Sydney Roosters have 3. Still better than Titans with only 1.

Another gun centre would be nice. Averillo is ok but not more than ok. A long-term 5/8 is a must. Kodi is good for next year but the year after? Not so sure. And if Flegler doesn't recover (knock on wood), will need at least 2 props.
