Andrew Abdo steps down

Not sure if this is good or bad for the game.

I feel he did a good job, and having PVL do both jobs is too much power in one mind.

I prefer management with a variety of eyes looking at outcomes.

Id hope the fill the position soon.

I'm not sure who was the main one pushing that "no fault" stand-down but I don't like it. I'm not sure about South Africa but in this country a person is innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. If sponsors don't like that, they should be stood down.

I do have to wonder if this has anything to do with the failure to get the Superleague deal over the line. Abdo probably realised it couldn't be done as the lower level teams would never vote for it and so thought i'm off and let someone else carry the can.

The uk system requires the individual teams to vote and the votes are equal as the clubs are privately owned. Everyone knows the NRL will do what they did in the 90s and force mergers or drop teams and none of those directors are going to vote to end their jobs and lose the gravy train.

Wigan, Saints and Leigh and warrington are very close together. so you'd imagine 1 definately likely 2 to be gone.
Bradford, Leeds, Huddersfield, Castleford and Wakefield are very close together. Bradfords ground is literally a hole in the floor and Castlefords ground is a shanty. its like something you'd see in a slum. so you'd say both them are done or merge.
Hull FC and Hull KR are close. One likely to go or they merge.
If you were paying yourself a few 100k a year plus the company car and free lunches and hospitality etc would you vote to give that up?

If the NRL come in they will want to increase the profile and expanse of the game and spread teams around. Id say 3 lancs 3 yorks teams. bring in london put a team in Birmingham (my local team obvs) then put one in cardiff and one in dublin or edinburgh and keep the 2 french sides.

It still means 4ish sets of directors are going to vote to give up their perks and 4ish sets of fans will turn their backs on the game. History runs deep with the 1895 split and the fans would rather turn their backs on the game than support a new team.
