Is he their best? Always seemed overrated to me. A better hooker than halfback.

Round 5: Dolphins vs Wests Tigers

I guess we will see this afternoon whether last week was was a false dawn for the Tigers or they are the real deal. There are no "easy games" but a win in this game and then the following week against Broncos missing a few key players will solidify our position at the top of the table heading...

    2024 squad and best 17

Is that SOS? I thought his defence was ok. For a halfback. I was disappointed by his ability to lead the team around in attack. Katoa has had 2 games against struggling opposition so lets see how he goes in harder games but thus far, I really like what I'm seeing.

    2024 squad and best 17

We are probably too harsh on SOS but @mr_c definitely needs to reconcile himself to the new reality going forward. That is, the only way Katoa isn't going to be the halfback for at least the next 2~3 years is if he's injured. I had mixed feelings about Katoa last year but now I see it's because...

Round 4: Gold Coast Titans vs Dolphins

If you search hard enough, you'll find things to criticise Katoa for. But overall, I think he's our halfback for the next 10+ years.

Round 4: Gold Coast Titans vs Dolphins

I wasn't happy about Kerr either but I'll wait a for a few hard games against top teams before admitting I was wrong.

Round 4: Gold Coast Titans vs Dolphins

Even with the upgrade, not a great deal for good halfbacks. Anyway, we gave him a chance so now he has to play well for the next 3 years even if his value as a halfback surpasses what we can pay him.

    NRL 2024 SPINE DEPTH CHART DOLPHINS First-choice: 1 Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow ($800k), 6 Kodi Nikorima ($300k), 7 Isaiya Katoa ($300k), 9 Jeremy Marshall-King ($450k). Total: $1.85m Depth: 1 Jake Averillo ($450k), 6 Anthony Milford ($400k), 7 Sean O’Sullivan ($350k), 9 Harrison Graham ($150k). Total...

Round 4: Gold Coast Titans vs Dolphins

I rate Campbell as a serious fullback but he's only played 30min of football in the last 6 months. Lets wait and see if he's even picked for them. Though I'm not sure if he's better than Hammer. Different kinds of fullbacks. Campbell is all about lots of touches and lots of passing. Hammer is...

    Recruitment and retention

The Dolphins have pulled off a major coup by extending boom halfback Isaiya Katoa in a $2m deal. The 20-year-old playmaker was under contract until the end of next year but has extended to 2028. The Dolphins were determined to take the highly regarded former Penrith junior off the market...

Round 2: Dolphins vs St George Illawarra Dragons

Lets not crown him the next immortal just yet but yeah, definitely a good first game at halfback.

    He's a good player, for literally 5~10min a game.

Round 2: Dolphins vs St George Illawarra Dragons

He was good but I didn't think any better than most of the forwards. I'd go with Kafusi or Flegler as the best forward. They were the ones laying the foundation early when it was an arm wrestle. But I'd say Plath is definitely Gilbert's replacement for this year and the early part of next year...

Round 2: Dolphins vs St George Illawarra Dragons

SOS is a 27 year-old journeyman. To compare him with Katoa at this stage of their career makes no sense. If Katoa has spent almost all of his time as a QLD or NSW Cup halfback by the time he is 25, I'll say he's rubbish at the NRL level. Nothing but respect for SOS. He gives it his all...

Fair enough but jeez your hard on Katoa.

Round 2: Dolphins vs St George Illawarra Dragons

Hover over the name in the side bar and choose "Ignore". I think that for whatever reason he doesn't rate Katoa. Fair enough. Might be right. I just think he's the best halfback we have at present. And there is every reason to believe he's going to become a very good halfback but time will tell.

Round 2: Dolphins vs St George Illawarra Dragons

It definitely, 100% has a lot to do with the pathetic display last week. And the especially bad games Tessi and SOS had. I know Hammer was probably the worst but he has runs on the board. SOS and Tessi don't.

Round 2: Dolphins vs St George Illawarra Dragons

He still only 19, isn't he? But yeah, I agree. The writing is on the wall. He still has a chance to prove us wrong and I hope he does. Was it the backs leaking points last game? I thought the lack of defence was all over the park. Though Isaako and Bostock did ok.

    Spencer Leniu 8 game ban

If it was racially motivated, I have no issue with the ban. I think it's spot on. I'm just not convinced at all it was racially motivated. In fact, I doubt it. When looking at Leniu's skin colour.
