Recruitment and Retention for 2027

Lol yet kurt plays it lol and with injurys to halfs n hookers alot we need him
Kurt is a lock but he can play other positions if asked to. They used to carry a utility and 3 forwards on the bench. Now they have cover for halves and outside backs in case of an injury and 4 forwards. As a general rule. I know there are exceptions.

And with injury we have we going. Need hom on bench either of then kodis played a number of postions too only place i see kodi been as no way they keeping williams on the money he is in the cup side

I rather Schneider to Williams because he’s cheaper, willing to play the system game and willing to be a foil for Katoa, Nikorima and Donoghoe as so much of what Dolphins do is built around them 3 and JMK. Williams will want to take control and be the look at me in the team.

I don’t think Woolf or the admins predicted that Nikorima would get better with age like what Cody Walker has done.

Nikorima is one that I’ve always doubted until now but now he’s so settled into the 5/8 role he’s in the best form of his life. His days of being a utility or fix it are so far behind him now he’s a specialist 5/8.

Roosters are actively pursuing Farnworth don’t listen to the denials they’re going to throw Tedesco money at him plus a beach side life style. Dolphins need to compete to keep him. Politis wants a big fish after some failures with some of his recent big signings.

Bostock and Naufahu are must keeps and Dolphins need to be careful one club doesn’t come at them two with a package deal that includes a nice pay day for Indie in the NRLW.

Cobbo ceiling going through the roof and Hammer is also off contract.

Find a way out of the Williams deal to keep Nikorima for next year and the others for the very long term.

I haven't seen Williams play in a while but he used to be 100x times better than Schneider is now. Schneider is a standard back up halfback. Teams can't afford to carry a good halfback as back up.

Williams last good year was 2020 he's struggled since returning to England and Warrington been going better without him this year. Katoa and Nikorima are better first choice options than Williams, Schneider is a better backup option like you said he's a perfect backup player and Dolphins have two very talented youngesters in their pathways in Toby Batten (19) and Karl Oloapu (21).

Katoa and Nikorima are certainly better. What we have been banging on about since Williams signing was announced. But I doubt Schneider is. That isn't meant to be criticism of Schneider. He's a good, QLD Cup standard halfback and we are wrong to expect more from a back up.

Having a 600-800k backup will cost the Dolphins other players it's about getting the balance right. This is why it's a must to get out of this Williams deal ASAP.

Agreed. Schneider is a great back up.

A great example of what we are talking about is Junior Tupou. He is moving back to the West Tigers. We signed him for $500k. Made a mistake and shipped him to the Roosters, the Roosters now shipping him back to the tigers. Guess who is still paying part of his salary under their cap? THE DOLPHINS.

These are the mistakes you need to avoid. Williams/Schneider/Kodi are a salary cap mistake waiting to happen.

Gilbert/Knowles/Plath/Donoghue is a Salary cap mistake.

I get it, most of those are playing well. However, they are all Salary cap mistakes.

Im not saying we are not going to make any, however the successful club make as few as possible. Its unrealistic to make none, but we need to reduce them.

Penrith letting Leota talk is avoiding a Cap mistake. The probably have a young prop they can pay nothing, rather then resigning a prop on big dollars and hamstringing themselves for 2 more years. Which snowballs meaning you cant keep someone younger whose useful life is longer.

you guys really havent thought these things ,

woolf has said that they can fit both willams n kodi in his side ( so hasnt got anything to do with his current or former form or kodi)

herbie has said hes not going anywhere ( and funny enough rumours have died )

cap goes up to 12 mil next year and who knows the following year ( talk of 20 mil ) will be with new broadcast deal if we can keep players we sitting pretty for next few years not needing to find 7.5 mil like panthers do

end the day players have been on same page as woolf and will continue when new players come in we got atleast 9 more spots to fill so we aint sort of money

there former form of players coming here has gone well behind them and i expect more signings will be on same page as him

Absolutely nailed it right here.

As for the locks Plath Donoghoe are the priorities.

We call them mistakes. Reality is, they may think Kodi is on the way out, then his form goes through the roof. Who knows. Shit happens

All i can say is its confusing to me.

Yep. That's what we are worried about. It might end up being Herbie.

lol herbie would be long gone to chocks if he was remotely intrested in going he said couple weeks ago hes not wanting go anywhere else

cap increases this year and with the record broadcasting deal it will only go up again ( also theres no way we going let our star player go unless we were getting someone of equal value

Herbie said, "He wants to stay." i.e. He might not.

It wouldn't be a question of "letting him go". He's off contract and can go wherever he wants.

Unfortunately in the NRL when someone is off contract they go whereever they want with the club getting nothing in retun.

Building thse guys up and developing means nothing. With no transfer fees, and unlikely pkayer swaps. You end up goung into a lottery or salary bidding war at the end of a contract.

So whatever mr c said. I gather he think he has an obligation to stay or he think it wont hapoen unless we get something. Its conplete wrong and not how it works. At the end of a contract he goes and we get nothing and have no power to stop him, other than offering a new contract.

When a player is offloaded under contract we nego to get rid. Another clud offers to take him, however they make us pay part of the salary, because they know we want rid.

This is the topic i put mr c on ingore for. He had no idea and argued like he was right, and was completely wrong.

Clubs like the Roosters got rid of their juniors. Because why pump money into developing young players, if you ger nothing for it in turn should thry leave.

And when you dont have to pay transfwr fees. May as well recruit the good ones, rather then pay for a development system.

End of the day if he was going go n same with kodi there aint anymore one out there at other clubs worthy of there money we have 9 spots open who be cheap plus cap going up tell me how we cant afford both we got williams but had kodi n herbie there so tells u we can as redid when molo was there n he was on big coin so again tell me where incao we cant afford as the 9 we need to sign plys we lost jake n jaymanes money again on good money still puzzles me you think we lack cap

Jaymane n jake would be on good mille plus between we aint paying bostock thee money they were stone wont require much so another two spots then 7 from lower grades who be on .. all
