With increasing cost, disposable income amongst Leagues core market is reduced. The first thing to go will be going to the game/ buying food at the game, or even the Kayo Sub.

I am sure they have people smart enough to overcome these hurdles with well thought-out plans. I suspect the push for private ownership or NRL owned/back clubs is part of it. The TV rites deal is very important to all this.

Id say the NRL are very lucky the English premier league is in a different time zone, that time barrier to entry, keeps the younger generation from choosing between EPL and NRL keeping viewership high for NRL due to lack of competition to quality sport.

One thing I know is, I see more EPL shirts on young kids in the streets of brisbane, then I do NRL jersey's. And this is NRL heart land.

I think the plan is to add new teams in growth markets, where income will be fine for new teams in a one town/team system. From there the lack of talent for teams in saturated markets will mean they don't get any talent and cant afford to pay overs as supporter income is limited due to high competition. Eventually those teams will fall over due to lack of support and regular periods of non-competition.

Wests Tigers are a perfect example. Id suggest the recent turmoil is due to Western Suburbs making a play to just go alone. The Tigers from what I understand don't bring much, where as Western Suburbs leagues is massive. I am not sure though as I am not personally interested. However, for that club, the new generation aren't going to support a team that comes last every year, as a result no income, as a result they just die, and a team in Outer Mongolia, who can provide a political leg up for those in power, will take their place.

I think youll find thst the owner. Holman Barnes is actually Wests Ashfield. Which as i said above is Wests leagues. One and the same. I may have got the name wrong. I also think they own a vast majority.

I dont think sponsors have anything to do with it or power over it at all. I think its them trying to get rid of the tigers in a merger, where clearly the Tigers are there in spirit only.

just out of curiousity how much is a season ticket? and how much is a walk up ticket on the day? how does that relate to the minimum wage? Leeds for example charged(2025) £220 for a standing ticket on the west terrace in goal looking up the field. £275 for a seat and if you want south stand that up £360+ looking touchline to touchline across the field (superleague has 13 homes games plus challenge cup games). thats roughly 20hrs work at minimum wages after taxes. its a sizable amount to fork out especially if you go as a family. then then you have parking food and beer on top.

Yeah thats what I thought.

From memory, the Tigers side was so in debit, they did the smart thing (i.e the silly thing) of selling their leagues club to developers years ago. Getting rid of a good income stream, going into a joint venture with a mega rich leagues club does wonders for your longevity.

Then you add the drinking culture, which means you're training it in or busing it. The ticket prices isnt the total issue, its the drink and the food where they take you to town. tickets for a walk up person is $30 aud id say. which means a family of 4 is about $100. You then add food and drink and you're spending $200 for 3 hours entertainment.

However, in Sydney house prices are amongst the most expensive on the planet, and then everything on top of that is literally taking the piss. So adding $200 a week for entertainment, is literally a thing that will get crossed off the list.

You're average wage in Australia would be $70k taking into account full-time and part-time workers. Just a guess, that's about $1200 after tax (Someone correct me here, not sure). Remember this is average, so the working class, that enjoy NRL probably aren't at that level. I mean your average rent in Sydney is about $700 a week. As you can see, something has to give.

Reminds me of Mitchell. I swear Mitchell lives off his potential, if he got fit he would be unstoppable. Instead it seems like he is happy getting his wage and being just good, rather then being one of the best.

I’ve got the Suncorp package think I paid $220 there about for 9 games train in is free couple of pints before $50 a game

He’s never going to be body beautiful that’s the way it is same with LM , it’s not in his dna it’s what he does on the field that matters, he needs a big year on and off the pitch if he wants to get back as a rep player

Uk average wage is about £36k that includes all the city toffs on millions and part timers. minimum wage is £25k FT. sad thing is £58k will put you in the top 10% of earners so 90% of the country are on £1100 a week or less (before tax). My mortgage is pretty good at £573 a month but i'm in the midlands. My local team is Championship and they are Birmingham which is about 20 miles and takes about 45mins however the nearest SL games are probably wigan or St helens (spit) which are 90ish miles from birmingham. and will take over 2 hours with traffic. Leeds is 122 miles and again about 2 hours cos the m1 is better than the m6. We dont' get travel in with the ticket which is a bitch. the fan bus to away games is usually £30 each on top of the ticket thats before coffee stops and reheated costco burger and filtered piss lager.

I reckon England and Australia would be pretty similar. However, with rail privatized in England, rail tickets would be more expensive then Australia. Especially if you were to travel to London for a game. I suspect that would be a 1 1/2 hour train trip for you? at about 90 quid? If I bought in the week of the game £90 is about right. If I buy. Ow for the end of Feb they are about 45. However that only gets me to Euston from Coventry. The full trip is home to cov station, train to Euston, tube tooting bus from tooting to the ground. It's about 2hrs 40 each way
