Penrith had 54% of possession last night. Penrith dominated all runs, metres, post contact metres & 1% better in completions and Dolphins dominated line breaks 6-3. Penrith kicked 28 times to 20, Dolphins made 80m and Penrith forced 4 drop outs to 1.

In defence both teams tackled at the same effective rate, Penrith missed 5 more tackles despite making 20 less and Dolphins made 7 more ineffective tackles.

Player stats JMK made the most tackles with 52 and Hammer the most metres with 258.

Minutes breakdown
80 - all 7 backs
76 - JMK
57 - Kuli
56 - Plath
55 - Gilbert
51 - Saifiti
44 - Nicholls
41 - Lemuelu
40 - Donoghoe
36 - Kaufusi
23 - Kerr

Kerr in 23mins takes 7 hit ups same as Lemuelu & Kaufusi and more than Plath to show the impact in the short time he has. Plath IMO was best on field so it's no disrespect just to highlight Kerr's role is short minutes high impact. Kerr's PTB speed is 3.22s normally the quickest in the side but this week Kaufusi 3.13s and Donoghoe 2.82s were faster. Glbert and Herbie both take over 4s PTB.

Herbie in particular usually has 3 or 4 players wrestling to bring him down. Of course it takes him longer to play the ball. Not sure why Gilbert is the same.

Good thing for Dolphins despite a 2-4 record their for/against is plus 8.

Last year 8th spot was decided by for & against as Newcastle and Canberra finished equal so getting the difference into a good space is very handy.

I think that's too many minutes for JMK. Should have Plath replace him for about 5 min either side of halftime and move Gilbert to lock during that period. Though it won't happen after a win.

I prefer Plath hooker and Donga lock when JMK is off. You can see Donga is playing that second 5/8 role which is freeing up Katoa a lot and works around Hammer's strengths & weaknesses.

Kerr only plays 23mins a game but his role is different to others. He's basically been told to put 40mins of football into 20 and you can see that where he's taking many hit ups and trying to provide high impact plays.

Donga's role has evolved where he's now playing a ball playing 13 role taking pressure off Katoa and he's also the backs cover for any HIA's which Dolphins been pretty lucky so far with the backs last year not so much.

Lemuelu and Kuli can't get through 80 so basically sharing a role both should improve with more game time. A lot of people on other pages seem to think Kuli is a prop what do people here think? I don't know his football all that well. Cons coming off the bench in successive weeks and scored tries in both so it's working there.

Stone IMO misses out and Nicholls just keeping the seat warm for Molo.

He's played one good game. Don't call him an immortal just yet.

I told you all before round 1 that Donga will be in the 17 as coverage for injuries and especially HIA's but Woolf has changed his role to focus on freeing up Katoa.

I'm a massive fan of Katoa.
