At least Woolf has one forced change on his hands. Gilbert out. So will also need a new captain. I don't think there is any other choice but Herbie Farnworth. More to the point, what to do with Hammer? He has had 4 bad games in a row. He's trying to get involved but is it the halves not giving him good balls? I don't think so. I think he's trying to do what all the best fullbacks do and set up tries rather than run himself. I really think centre is his position.

On the flip side of that is yet another lackluster game by Averillo who was given a bath by Shibasaki. Averillo's strength is Hammers weakness. Averillo can do a bit of ball playing but has trouble breaking tackles. Then there is also Kurt D on the bench. Is he coming on as a ball playing forward? Not his game at all. I'm not saying he is a long term option for fullback or 5/8. I just want to see him get a chance and I think Woolf can justify that because what he is going with now isn't working. So I think either a straight swap for Hammer and Averillo with Kurt D dropping off the bench or a bit of a reshuffle with Kurt D fullback, Hammer in the centres, Averillo 5/8, Niko on the bench.

The latter is what I hope for though seems harsh to put Niko on the bench. I think he's been good. One of our best. But then again, maybe bringing him on after the opening exchanges will make him even better.

The Gilbert suspension is the perfect chance to put Plath back to 13 and then I'd move Kaufusi to an edge and start Nicholls at prop

Sorry but the game has now passed the old Dolphins players by they're getting exposed for being too slow and no leg drive in the middle.

Agree about Plath but I think Kaufusi's days as an edge forward are over. I'd bring in Keeley to take Plaths place and Plath to 13.

I think he's still a week or two away.
Channel 10 reported something this morning on Twitter about Lemuelu. It will take more than him to turn the season into just one win.

Hammer is not working at fullback
Averillo is not working at centre
Nikorima days as an 80min NRL player are gone he's a fringe backup player at best
Nicholls, Kaufusi & Bromwich have hit the end with no point of return
Stone tackles well offers zero in attack (injuries have caught up)

Katoa needs more support
Plath needs to return to the middle & stay there
Forwards need more punch
Something in the structure is not working that has resulted in Hammer's decline

Woolf can't keep picking the same team and hope for a different result.

The culture at training has to change where everyone needs to put in the extra time and extra hard work only way it starts is by ripping in for extras.

Apart from Kaufusi who is doing ok as a middle forward, I think this is right.

How do you know what’s happening at training, you clown. Thought you lived in Sydney, last time I looked that’s about a 1000km from Redcliffe

They are not fit everyone is seeing it bar the handful of fans left and they were gassed 10mins into the Broncos clash.

Kaufusi isn't laying any platforms he's defending alright but unfortunately it's the one season too long.

Too many players are too comfortable knowing Woolf won't make the tough calls and laziness has set in with no energy, desire or competitiveness on the field.

The only time Dolphins have showed energy was a trial game where mostly the next generation of players played.

There is no indication at all they are unfit. It's mostly several forwards have been going around a year too long. Nicholls and Kenny B at least. Maybe Stone and Kaufusi is still going ok but he's not as good a middle as he was on an edge a few years ago.

Maybe I was right again when I said as part of my season preview the aging players will be relegated before seasons end. I thought Woolf would be tough and make the big calls I don't think he's got the mettle to do this. Life is easy as Bennett's assistant or coaching in Super League as has been exposed. There's no GM of Football and no Recruitment Manager to assist Woolf has gone the Walters approach when he sacked Ikin & co and is heading on a much faster slide than Walters.

The line speed isn't there, the energy isn't there, the desperation isn't there and the basic concentrations aren't there. This can be achieved by unbreakable fitness levels.
