Round 23: Dolphins vs Brisbane Broncos

Was at the game, the start was absolutely terrible but when the best bench in the NRL came on we did Phins things and decided 'it doesn't matter how many points you score we're just going to score more than that'

Not quite as good a game as the Warriors game, but a fantastic comeback

We for sure need Flegler to be taking a pay cut if he wants to stay at the club, we can use that money to keep Herbie/Bostock/Hammer/extend Katoa hopefully plus obviously we need Plath and Donoghoe long term extensions they are absolutely amazing

At our best we can compete with any club in the NRL, the Warriors games and Panthers game showed that.

Hopefully someone in the top four slips up and we get a chance to win out and take a top 4 spot, it's a fantastic attitude to not give up at 0-24 down and just grind out a win

Was good to see far more red than maroon at the stadium too

💯
I was really pissed last night by I think it was the Broncos second try with Fleglers pathetic attempted tackle on Mam.

1 of Mams tries Bostock left the door open he latter didn't kill the ball in goal. He may be getting better but his technical defending is still hit and miss

He might be 5/8.
Knowles and Flegler shouldn't be on the field at the same time. Both have strong carries and hit hard front on but are a bit lacking with lateral movement.
Fineanganofo plays 13 at Capras and fills in 9. He is to Capras what Fuller is to Redcliffe in the Cup. Without Fineanganofo they're not in the top 8 with him they're currently in the top 4. He's going on the same Cup path with Capras as Donoghoe was in 2023-24. Dolphins will need a decent no.6 next year with both Nikorima and Averillo gone.

StG did the Dolphins a solid today, although our +/- is still a ways off anyone in the top 4. The Dolphins could extinguish Manly's season on Friday. That would be good payback to what happened at Kayo. An intriguing four weeks coming up.

We were down 24-0 against the side running second last. It's not working well enough for anyone not content for us to be cannon fodder in the finals.
Agree with you. Aggressive teams from the outset like Roosters and Warriors, flat trackers like Sharks and clinical side like Penrith will relish Dolphins having their two best effort players and probably 2 of the top 5 players sitting on the benches for the opening 20.

Next week is ALL or nothing for Manly and they'll be risking Turbo and anyone without a broken leg as they can still get to 13-11.

Last night was Broncos grand final but the fizz in their performance wore off after one mistake when up 24-0 and this Friday night is Manly's very last roll of the dice they'll be emotionally pumped for the game and Dolphins can't afford another slow start.

Very telling stat.

Max Plath comes on as Broncos lining up the conversion for their 4th try so effectively 24-0 and Kurt Donoghoe comes on as Hammer is cruising away to score.

The carnage is 40-8 when them two are on the field. Plath played to the end and Donga comes off with 3 to go.

Plath plays 59 mins and Donga 52 mins - for the Dolphins to advance deep in the finals Woolf needs to find another 15mins per game out of these two.

I've said it 1000x but lets make it 1001. Knowles is good. But he's our 3rd or 4th best lock. Behind
  1. Donoghue
  2. Plath
  3. Stone
  4. Knowles
Knowles isn't good, though. He easily leads the team in missed tackles. He is 5th in the NRL with that unfortunate stat. He has the worst tackle efficiency (90.2%) of any lock in the league ( min. 12 games played). He also has the worst avg. running metres per game in the comp (64. 2). He is totally out of his element and a waste of the salary cap. He holds down a regular role because of his friendship with the coach. He has nil offensive capabilities to go along with all that (1 try, 0 try assists, 2 line breaks, 0 line break assists). He has led the tackle count in a couple of matches, but he is more of a hindrance than an asset.

Im just looking to make lemonade out of sour lemons.

However, I wouldnt be resigning him If I ran the show, not when I have Plath and Kurt in my squad

I genuinely wonder if plath and donga are being kept on the bench biding their time for finals. They are our secret sauce ace in the hole trump card. It's beyond conservative to play them like we do.
