Round 19: Dolphins vs North QLD

He did okay in the last 60 minutes by playing within himself. Not trying to do too much.

Absolutely. Even if he was named in the halves he would be in every hard tackle and running the ball. Doesn't really matter what number you put on his back he is a pure footballer with and without the ball but for now he needs to be held back, which is crazy to say of a modern player.

You know, at the beginning of last season 2 257Matt was raving about Donga, saying he was going to be in the 17 from round 1 and etc. I think most of us had a go at him for it. TBH, his form under Wayne was quite average. But Matt was right all along. He was easily our best last year and I think even though he was out injured for a while, is neck and neck with Herbie for our best this year.
 
A very daunting opening 15 mins, but totally dominated from that point onwards. 57% pos., 10 LB and 1800 m rushing. The Dolphins have hit back in convincing fashion. Sitting in 5th with six games to go. Hopefully, Katoa returns in three weeks time as he is terribly missed. The Dolphins control their own destiny. A strong finish certainly rewards them with a top 4 spot.

Yeah it's fair people doubted him, and fair people supported him too. For me I remember those bad games last year when he was 13 and how he was never giving less than all that he had both sides of the ball with both aggression and skill. Sounds crazy but just seeing those games had me pushing his wheelbarrow from then on. He IS the best all around footballer in the comp if you had to cover every position. People might forget he did a pre season at fullback on top of his resume for Fiji in the halves and his proficiency in the middle on top of that.

He is a rare talent. Nowadays he is just injured or he flies too close to the sun.

I remember thr poor games too.

He turned it around when he found his position. 13. And stopped making boneheaded errors.

I think i posted a while back that it looked like someone sat him down and had a chat with him. He made an error in a game where the camera showed him hitting himself in the head after the mistake. That was the turning point.

For most of these guys the game is simple. Tackle hard, dont give up possession. If you add ball playing skills to that the world is your oyster. Having a stacked team around you helps enormously too. If he was a Dragon, forget it.
 
The big key for me was like our other wins we composed ourself n didn't rush biggest. Part of the loss was we rushed two more wins n we cement top 4

He has done that many times. Nowadays he has a very intense mindset in games. Him, Gilbert, and ray stone are a rare trio of no holds barred brutalists but donga is hard on himself it seems.

If he played at the dragons like you postulate they wouldn't have a clue how to play him.

He was poor in the few NRL games he played prior to 2025.

As for the Dragons, I thought they were robbed vs the Warriors but their pack worries me a bit. Our backs are way better but their forwards gave the Warriors pack a bit of a bath.
