Recruitment and Retention for 2028

Pretty big difference if we are offering 800-850 vs he gets 1m+ offers elsewhere or if he gets offered 900k by the Dragons to go and lose most weeks etc and we're offering him only 50k less or whatever it may be better for his career to stay here and compete for titles, especially with the cost of moving/houses being more expensive in Sydney especially when factoring in we're very likely to be a top 4 team for a long time if both he and Herbie stay with us it'd increase his chances of playing origin and for Australia every year vs harder to stand out playing for a team that loses most weeks

I am going to be so excited if we somehow keep both of them, as long as we keep at least one it's not a disaster

James Hooper reports the Bulldogs are interested in Sam Walker, with Gus Gould and Nick Politis set to meet this week.

The Roosters have also reportedly been offered a swap deal involving Matt Burton.

Would be interesting for us if that happens since Burton is either a half or... a left centre same as Herbie once Rodwell is ready to partner Savala in the halves

That would surely mean they aren't going to sign Herbie. The biggest threat might be PNG, not the Roosters.

Are we sure it's 1.4 do we have a source there I know that was the initial ask but that feels like overs unless that's only what it goes to after the cap goes up

Anyway hopefully we can get Herbie and or Bostock re signed, once we have at least one of them I'll feel a lot better about our back line in 2028 - we already know in 2027 it's going to be one of the best if not the best in the comp

I dont know if thats the average, which includes a ratchet clause.

I know the confusion over what Bostock has been offered by others is because of ratchets.

I think we have offered him 850k. He has an offer elsewhere of 900k with a ratchet clause. Which makes in on average to be 1mil a year. But to the naked eye, makes it look like we are only 50k off. When we arent.

Again all this is secondhand knowledge so dont tke it as gospel.

The 1.4 is inclusive of ratchets right? Surely we aren't paying 1.4m a season for Hammer when as far as we know there weren't any other clubs interested in that ballpark

He's a 1m a season player for sure, maybe more after the cap goes up but if it's 1.4 surely that's the new cap not the current cap

I guess we'll see where things fall now with Bostock and Herbie, hoping we see a re-signing announcement from one or both this week

no way! He's worth 1 mil under the new cap regime. He has the occasional blinder but Herbie is at least 8 from 10 every week. Hammer is 8 from 10, 4 or 5 times a season. Against the Warriors until the last 15 min he was the worst player on the field including Knowles. Against the Roosters in the next game he was the next worst after Knowles.
