Recruitment and Retention for 2027

850k being reported but just a rumour. Remember he isn't even allowed to talk to rival clubs until Nov 1.

850k for Bostock isn't overs.
Every club except for Dolphins, Titans, Tigers and Bears are allowed to get away with talking and offering deals to players.

The Bostock and Herbie situations are why I never believe a word a player says about wanting to stay or why I don't believe clubs when the leak out a player moved for family reasons.

He should be on 450 to 650 not anywhere over most first year rep players get 500 to 600k

No, id say thats on the money.

I read that today. And I would say you're right.

I was told 1mil was the offer by someone else. A friend who is in the circles of their ceo. Told me it was a 3 year deal too. He also said they had talked to Mitchell and Burton. But that was a few days ago

I'm not sure if someone has already posted this. But I also heard that Jack informed the club, and gave the club the opportunity to match it. And the Dolphins weren't willing to.

This is secondhand knowledge, so i cant be too sure. just what I heard.

Hope mr.c and Matt dont caps lock me 🤣 because the internet says otherwise.

Bryan Fletcher interviewing Bostock on The Run Home.

Bryan was asked if he had advise to Jack coming into Nov 1.

Bryan literally asked him if he was happy where he was, and told him happiness is hard to buy, and the grass isnt greener on the other side, and that chasing premierships was more important then money. He pretty much said swerve the Dragons. BHAHAHAHAHAHA

LMAO, slap in the face for the Dragons right there.

Interesting watch, go take a look.

You think Dragons will be easy beats next season? in the back half of last season they weren't and I rate Niko and Drinkwater.

I dont think they will be easy beats. I think they will improve heaps. Never said they would be easy beats. I was paraphrasing what Bryan Fletcher said to Jack.

I rate Niko, Do I rate him if Metcalf gets injured and they have to play Kyle Flanagan? No. Who is going to kick?

Do I rate Drinkwater? I dont know, he had a mixed season. I'm on the fence. Lots of errors.

Do I rate their forwards, Yes

They came last, With that investment where do you think they will come? Last to top 4 is massive. I say they finish 10 to 12th.

If you asked me which side I would want to play for as a football player. Considering Coach, Competitiveness, everything other then money.

1 Penrith
2 Roosters
3 Dolphins
4 Melbourne
5 Daylight

As footballer, Money is important. But having played sport at a high level, the most important thing to me, is opportunity to win, then money. Noone, at high level sport wants to lose. If you're winning the money follows with trophies and rep honors.

By the way, I just heard Buzz Rothfield on the show after The Run Home (NRL 360 breaking news edition), say that Bostock would take 1mil at the Dragons.

I believe you, and I think your right.

I think there are a lot of mixed messages

Good to see Hammer is staying, does anyone have any details of what his new deal is? I assume in line with his current deal with ratchet clauses for the cap going up and that we're not paying 1.4m a season for him or anything, 1m a season bumping up a little when the cap goes up seems reasonable.

850k is not overs for Bostock with the cap going up and him playing centre and wing at rep level and being an aerial threat from centre, 850k a season is not what it was five years ago.

450k-500k is absolutely delusional for Bostock in no universe were we or anyone signing him on sub 800k he is a top 5-6ish centre in the comp (Herbie, Toia, Crichton, Best, McLean maybe?) and also a top 5-6 winger in the comp plus he's young and more likely to get better than worse. He for sure is worth at least 800k on the open market. Remember we didn't lose a game with him all season until the prelim, the aerial threat he adds is huge and he does everything else competently too even if Herbie is more spectacular.

I'd have happily seen us sign him on 850k but if he's gone it is what it is and hopefully we can keep Herbie despite the Roosters rumours

Also saw some noise about the Roosters wanting an early release for Herbie but I can't imagine any world where we release him a year early when we're in a win now window in 2027 unless they want to give us Toia in exchange which obviously they won't

Come on Herbie sign that contact with us on Nov 1 and let's win some Premierships

Obviously there's no universe where we ever release Herbie or Bostock a season early unless we're getting an origin level player in return from the club while we're in a window to win the comp in 2027. I don't think the Roosters even have anyone we'd want to let him leave even 1 season early other than Toia or Naufahu Whyte and no way they're giving us either of them. I suppose i'd consider letting Bostock go to the Dragons early if they give us one or both of the Couchmans but again no chance that's going to happen either.

At this point it's all rumour and innuendo. Jack and Herbie aren't even allowed to talk to rival clubs yet. Almost certainly they have via intermediaries but very doubtful they have agreed to terms yet.

I got the 850 figure by looking at the Dragons forum but even they were arguing about the November 1st thing. Some saying the rumour about Bostock is on the money and others pointing out they aren't even allowed to talk to him yet.

I just hope we can keep Herbie. Of course I hope we can keep Bostock as well but by this point, I'm a bit sick of it. Bostock is good but not even close to Herbie.

The guy had a near career ending knee injury last year that will impact his view on the future. does he want glory or a secure future? stash the cash while your young go for trophies later. A winners ring doesn't pay the bills when you're 60 but a properly invested salary will.

I agree with you.

However, is earning 850k with a trophy or 1 mil with no trophies for a few years going to make a huge difference financiallly?

Over the lifespan of an average contract (the average nrl career is probably less then 3 years) but lets say for Bostock is an extra mil because im generous. (and thats before tax, because that 150k is 75k in the pocket after tax, then at that income level the taxman comes back at you and takes a little more)

So youd perfer something like 6mil and no glory? Or 5mil and all glory? (before tax)

Id be taking the later.

The reality is. You have one career and the difference isnt life changing at that level.

However, i acknowledge not all are the same, and others do it for just the money. However, i dont want players in the team I support to be there just for the cash. They need to thrive for glory to put the effort in thats needed to achieve glory.

Just my opinion
