Recruitment and Retention for 2027

Have to let some go. Simple as that. With the 2 new teams coming in, can't afford to have guys like Ray Stone, Naufahu, Pouniu and etc as "depth".
Yeah have to agree. Need to hold the top liners though.

Start leaning on youth network we have, getting those talented youngster on minimum wage coming through, I think we will start seeing that in the coming years.

We are also in a hard position being a new club, the 4th/5th year is always hard, because you've signed a whole squad at the same time, they generally come off contract at the same time. So we have a huge amount of players to look after.

I like the staggered 1 year extension, well before the end of a contract when you know your on a good player. It staggers contract end dates, instead of having 8 or 9 off contract, you might get 3 or 4.

  1. Hammer
  2. Cobbo
  3. Herbie
  4. Averillo
  5. Bostock
  6. Niko
  7. Katoa

You would have to imagine this is what Woolf thinks is our best backline from round 1 next year.

  8. Molo
  9. JMK
  10. Flegler
  11. Finefui
  12. Lemuelu
  13. Knowles

starting pack is less important because 4 on the bench will get plenty of game time whether they are starting or not.

  14. Plath
  15. Donoghue
  16. Gilbert
  17. Naufahu / Poniu / Nonu

Is that bench too light? I don't think so unless they let the game slow down a bit again.

  18. Fineanganofo
  19. Kaufusi
So 2 of Naufahu / Poniu / Nonu will go. Kaufusi will also keep the forwards honest.

That's a pretty f*cking good team! Though Ray Stone might yet be extended.

11 spaces to go in the 30 i am sure we could still get someone decent n still keep few that of contract

Plath in the starting lineup for mine.

Kaufusi, Gilbert.

Then you have 3 locks which is 1 too many. Even though Knowles has been good recently, that addition is even morr questionable.

There is money there we could free up

Youre only upgrading Flegler.

We are losing Saifiti's full contract. Not sure what he was on. If it was 600k. Youre not giving that full amount to tommy. 100k upgrade leaves 500k to spread around.
No, we need another forward. Still we go through chunks of the game with little go fowards and the back line carries the attack.

Both are signed long-term. Would be easy to let them go and have another club pick up their contract due to their age and ability but hopefully we could keep both. Plath and Knowles as locks and Kurt as a utility.
Depth is good but will mean we lose someone.

Tigers close to signing Averillo are the whispers.

Bostock shown he can lock down centre, Averillo wont be back?

I also know the Dragons are interested too, despite being told he wasn't interested. They haven't gone away.

In 2024 trai said he would stay here even if he only played qcup because he likes it here and yeah for that he would have taken unders easy.

As for having too many locks in starting to wonder if woolfy is trying or at least experimenting with three locks or a different type of forward makeup, because our three fittest players are either locks or middles in donga, Plath, and stoney, and they are all tough and relentless, plus two have ball playing and halves skills, plus can fill at hooker and so on. If this 6 again goes even harder teams will wish they had blokes in the middle that never got tired, and with the added benefit of not just utility value but actual ball playing skills which also compliment a faster and more tiresome game when we have the ball. I'm really curious to see if we can make something of this unique situation where we have such power and diversity in the lock position while maintaining a presence and bite in the middle.

I like seeing our boys bash the opposition in defence, then Plath and donga in the middle with attack are chucking the ball around before it even gets to Izzy, and the nikorima on top of that. I'm really keen to see more of it.
