What's new

Off Topic - Other Clubs

To be fair the Storm completely failed with Pahulu recently and have had a few players regress there in the past year for the first time in forever. Their forwards and backs were pretty horrible this year, Munster regressed a bit but more due to age than coaching i'd imagine and Pahulu looked like a blue chip first grader debuting young at the Titans until they drove him out of the club trying to nickle and dime him over a bonus, Storm picked him up and then he just disappeared so obviously didn't develop as intended and is now off to the Raiders most likely. He was touted as a possible future origin player when he was 18 and now he's stuck outside first grade at 22.

They've pretty clearly failed to develop Howarth to his potential too, he had one good year in 2025 but has otherwise been close to a bust for a blue chip prospect as well and at this point yes he's a first grader but barely.

Pezet and Wishart don't seem to be the new Munster and Hughes either the way the Storm clearly initially intended them to be and now both have moved on. Pezet may still make it at the Broncos but it's TBD

Cooper Clarke seems to be going well but beyond that they don't seem to be developing anyone special at the moment, Fa'alogo obviously has insane talent in attack and is going well in that regard but he's still a defensive liability at this point granted he has time. TBD on their new young halfback as we haven't seen enough of him yet

I would have thought for sure Pahulu would be a solid first grader by now though but he's gone from looking like the third best middle at the Titans when he was way too young to be playing first grade to just nothing at the Storm.
Titans and especially Hasler were stupid over a small bonus by not selecting him in the final round. More dramas came afterwards and it involved a club trying to get him a year earlier than planned it's now the same rinse & repeat Zane Harrison same club involved in trying to poach both despite the denials coming from that club official about Harrison.

Gold Coast don't have the culture or management or leadership to handle these things. Harrison and Bai are gone as soon as November 1 hits.

As an ex Titans fan it was a truly miserable experience supporting that club for 19 years and I had more fun supporting the Dolphins in one season than I've had in two decades as a Titans fan. They were mismanaged in so many ways and the Hasler era was the final straw, in not sure there is anyone else competent and less likeable than Des Hasler and the way they treated Pahulu showed me they're not even likeable underdogs anymore the club was and is just run by bad people who also have no idea how to run a football club.

The Phins have a much better culture than the Titans and if the Titans lose Zane Harrison which they are doing their best to trying to not pay his market value then they are truly fucked for the foreseeable future given he's a solid blue chip 7 prospect and they don't have another one.

Bai didn't develop as well as I expected this year but that could be Titans related and I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up at the Chiefs too. They're currently botching Kinis development too as he has somehow gotten worse defensively despite having a ton of talent in attack

I just don't think the Titans will ever be good at this point at least while the Frizelles own the club, like with Wests Tigers there is something just broken culturally there

Gould is chasing hard for Harrison despite the denials he's ready to move on Burton and Woods.

And Phil Gould wants to get rid of him? In other words, he hasn't lived up to the hype.
Its because they have another young kid (my son went to school with) Alex Conti. He has overtaken him.

Overtaken because Woods has been injury prone.

Harrison has overvalued himself. If your suggesting the Bulldogs has pushed that value up, id let him leave to the Bulldogs.

Im not busting my cap on a kid with 1 year experience. The rumours were he wants over a million. Thats paying well overs for a kid who could bounce in form, especially after being injured.

I get he is a prospect. Thats telling me, even you guys think its potential. When you pay elite money for potential, you are rolling the dice. Every team that pays top dollar for potential needs awesome development or luck. Both are not at thr Bulldogs at the minute.

We are talking about a team run by the great white myth. Gould.

I don't think he has overvalued himself and the rumour was 900k which his manager denied, if I recall the offer was 600k which is for sure unders even on what he's shown so far for a halfback let alone what his ceiling is in a few years, remember, the cap is going up etc.

I think he's worth 750-800k no worries at least with his floor being he's going to be Jamal Fogarty in his prime in a few years and his ceiling being an origin level game controlling 7 and if I was the Chiefs and I missed out on Walker and Cleary i'd be paying his 800-900k ask to have a proper game controlling 7 who will likely get better for the next few years as he gets closer to his prime in charge of the side. The Titans are playing with fire not locking him down given they have no replacement prospects in their team at all in terms of a like for like player, Jayden Campbell is a five-eighth not a halfback and Ilias absolutely sucks and they don't have any other elite prospects anywhere near ready to take over at halfback.

If I had to bet yes or no at even money on whether Harrison's market value is over 800k a season in 3 years time I would take yes.

I'd be shocked if he isn't a starting halfback in the NRL in 5 years, the other halves prospects in his age group all seem more like maybes (Watson, Woods, Andrews, Black, Rodwell) although a few of them are promising too but at this point he's moved ahead of them off what he's done so far.

Supply and demand etc assuming Cleary and Walker stay put the only two halves prospects on the market Nov 1 are Harrison and Woods the rest are basically all career backups and not at all first grade ready and Woods is more of a gamble than Harrison as we haven't seen him in first grade yet and he is coming off a season long injury, granted Harrison is injured too but both should be fine well before the start of the 2028 season.

Going to be fascinating to see what happens if the Bulldogs make a move for him it means they've entirely lost faith in Mitch Woods, who in turn will also move clubs and it feels like the main landing spot for him would then either be the Titans if they have lost Harrison or PNG/Perth or if he wants to stay in Sydney it's hard to say assuming the Panthers are committed to Jett Cleary being Nathan's partner there long term if he stays, maybe Wests Tigers since Doueihi isn't really a true 7?

We really need to get at least two of Bostock, Herbie and Hammer locked down before Nov 1, ideally we don't lose any of them, losing one would be bad-ish but manageable, losing two would really hurt

Re: Conti I haven't seen him play looking forward to seeing him play for Lebanon today, they've shortened a ton and while they're still underdogs to PNG they're very live to win that game in a bit of an upset today if they play well. I still expect them to lose a close one a lot but they've come in from +27.5 points at open to +8.5 points now despite not having Moses or Doueihi, their backline looks better than PNG's and their pack only slightly worse

My apologies Swoop, I read somewhere he wanted over 1 mil (hence my comments above), but happy to go with what you say, as from memory there were no direct quotes.

I agree between 750/800 is about the mark.

If I recall the Titans offer was 600, he apparently wanted 900 via a leak, but then his agent denied the ask being 900. I think at its core it comes down to does he want his junior club to build around him or does he think the Titans are permanently screwed even with him if so Dogs or PNG make sense as both really need a 7, although in Dogs case it depends if they've given up on Woods or not

Having seen Conti today playing for Lebanon obviously he's young and not ready but I didn't see anything to suggest he's ahead of Woods yet if Woods can get healthy but we'll see I guess. In either case he's nowhere near Zane right now and they're the same age. If I'm Gus i'm pretty tempted to sell Burton (who is declining imo), move Galvin to 6 and sign Zane if he's willing to move to Sydney for similar money to what Burton's on. He plays the same style of football Sexton did, except he's a lot better than Sexton was at the equivalent point in his development and is probably just all around better than Sexton even at their actual ages right now - then the Dogs would just need to fix their issues at fullback and hooker and they're back to being a decent side. Hayward and Tracey both aren't it.

His current real value is probably around that 750-800 mark yeah although I think in a couple seasons he will probably be a 1m a season player, but obviously isn't right now off his resume even though he looked great out there in a horrendous team in 2026

COnti is ahead due to woods being injury prone. I think he has had 2 season ending injuries in a row? And maybe both hamstrings?

Im not sure.
