Dragons have recruited very well. Drinkwater isn't one of the best fullbacks in many areas but as far as being at attacking fullback, statistically he's No.1. Kodi is a late bloomer. He's at the top of his game now.Phil Gould has made such a mess of that squad.
Offered top dollar to players in the wrong positions. Both centres will be their top paid players.
Now there are glaring gaps. And they have no room to do it.
Only option is to cheat the cap. Which Im sure they probably already do.
The recent management of thier roster has to be the worst in the history of NRL, apart from the dragons
Me? I said Bulldogs would make it easily? Make what easily? The top 8? I didn't.Lolagain i thought you said they get there easy

For next year yes. over the last 15 years, no.Dragons have recruited very well. Drinkwater isn't one of the best fullbacks in many areas but as far as being at attacking fullback, statistically he's No.1. Kodi is a late bloomer. He's at the top of his game now.
Fair enough. If you used the reply function, so we know who you are addressing, it would help.hence why giving him shit
Yes and no re Dragons recruiting well, they have recruited well given their situation but a couple of the signings are iffy (Drinkwater and Sami for me)Dragons have recruited very well. Dragons have a very young and very impressive pack. Then add Koloamatagi to that. But yeah, they need Metcalf to be fit. IfYes and no re Dragons recruiting well, they have recruited well given their situation but a couple of the signings are iffy (Drinkwater and Sami for me)
Metcalf is a great recruitment but a huge injury risk obviously - if he stays healthy he is easily their most important signing
Kodi is obviously a good signing too but only has a few years of prime left and will be playing behind a much worse pack than he does with us and with less talented outside backs and not as good a halves partner (unless Metcalf both stays healthy and hits his ceiling somehow)
I do approve of both of those signings for the Dragons although Metcalf is a massive risk obviously though given he is 27 and has managed 45 games in the NRL since debuting in 2021 but at his best he could turn the club around if he could stay on the park
Sami has a hard carry and that's it. People massively overrate him because of it the same way a lot of people do about players who overperform their actual impact in fantasy points with meaningless offloads and tackle breaks, his defence is bad just not as bad as some other outside backs the Titans have had over his tenure, he lost his pace and is no longer the guy who ran down Josh Addo Carr, Des Hasler turned him and several other Titans players into slugs prioritising size/strength over pace despite the game going in the opposite direction. He's a below average finisher too for being a starting winger despite holding the Titans tryscoring record, that's simply because of the number of games he has played there on the wing and in the outside backs. Seriously, Des ruined a LOT of players in just a few years at the Titans and Sami is one of them, he's had a slightly better year this season but he's not going to get any better at his age and likely has a bit of an attitude problem being part of the Titans losing culture clique.
Drinkwater is one of the worst defensive fullbacks in the NRL - he's good without being amazing in attack the way Walsh and Ponga are, but he's a far bigger defensive liability than either of them and i'd say there is a strong case he is the worst defensive fullback in the NRL ahead of Kini and Dufty. I personally think he is the most overrated fullback in the NRL (there is no way he is a top 10 fullback in the comp factoring everything in despite what the stats may say regarding his attack).
Koloamatagi is a good signing, but they're paying a lot for a good but not truly elite middle. He's a good player though and i'm fine with it, the club's pack should be quite good next year as the rest continue to develop.
Watson is only stopping over on his way to the Chiefs so doesn't hugely matter but I guess he takes Cook's role for a season as a serviceable hooker and can do some minutes at lock if needed.
Overall it's far, far better than their roster this year but I expect Drinkwater and Sami to be busts and the Dragons 1-5 is still going to be horrendous, their halves are TBD and depend on Metcalf's ability to stay healthy but it's far better than what they have now and their pack will get slightly better too and has already improved a lot this season
I think their ceiling is mid table and their floor is bottom 4, they'll improve a bit but in no way are they going to be contenders at this point either
I could see Kodi regressing heavily at the Dragons too, but we'll see. He is surrounded by players that complement him so well at the Phins and won't be at the Dragons.
They won't win the spoon though that is reserved for the Bears, I know people said that about the Phins in their first season and I half expected it myself but the Phins inaugural roster was worlds better than this roster the Bears have put together so far.
I count maybe four players on the ENTIRE Bears roster i'd want to sign at the Phins if I was coach and given an option to sign them and a couple of them are depth signings. I'll be shocked if they win six games in their first season and would set the line at about 3 wins or so. If they avoid the spoon they'll have done well.
Dragons have a very young and very impressive pack. Then add Koloamatagi to that. But yeah, they need Metcalf to be fit. Ifmr_c's favourite player, Kyle Flanagan plays any first grade, it means they will be around the bottom of the ladder again. I wonder if
mr_c thinks Kyle Flanagan is better than Katoa like he thought SOS was better.
There was a time when he was at the Dragons where I couldnt wait to see the back of him.Watched a bit of South's vs East's the other night and I was glad to see Euan Aitken still playing and playing well. One of the early guys we let go who I still miss and who is still a good player. Not saying our current back row isn't complete, but I remember in 2024 he was man of the match very frequently just for being a hard-worker.
I feel terrible for Jai Arrow. I wish he was healthy but now can we please just let it be? Stop the media circus around him.Watched a bit of South's vs East's the other night and I was glad to see Euan Aitken still playing and playing well. After Rob Burrow got it he and Kev worked hard to use it to raise the profile and i may add a ton of cash to help research and treatment.I feel terrible for Jai Arrow. I wish he was healthy but now can we please just let it be? Stop the media circus around him.
He was a rubbish centre but good backrower. But we are fine with Fin, Lemuelu and now Pouniu. There was a time when he was at the Dragons where I couldnt wait to see the back of him.
He was playing centre and had no ability to bring his winger into the game. His passing was bad.
Since playing in the backrow, I think he has found his spot.
