Just a thought and wondering what people think. With modern HIA protocol and stand downs which obviously were never a thing. Are any of the current youngsters coming into the first grade going to make 300 games?

It was a massive achievement anyhow but it seems likely now to be unachievable.

I think it's likely. Wasn't so long ago, 30 was right at the end of one's career. These days playing until 34 or35 isn't anything extraordinary.

But probably might be hard for forwards. Already is.

Apart from Bromwich and Cameron Smith, have any other forwards reached the 300 game mark?
I think Steve Menzies, the Manly backrower also got over 300 games. And I think the ESL then Canterbury then St George and then ESL again prop James Graham holds the record for the most top grade games.

Jammer has something like 476 including GB and England games however he himself claims to have had a stupid number of head knocks which in the modern game would drastically cut that number

Just looked it up 100 concussions.

Great point. I also wonder if now there are more suspensions than ever it will affect it too?

Heaps actually looking at the list I am surprised there are almost as many forwards as backs, although some played a bit of both like Sutton and Luke Lewis...
Gallen, Parker, Adam Blair, Heighnington, Hindmarsh, Ryan Hoffman, Tolman, Gavin Cooper, Kite, Wiki, Civo, Langmack, Steve Price, Mannering, Ricketson, Tamou, Bromwhich, Farrah, Priddis, Watmough, Geoff Gerard, Sutton, McCullough. Thaiday, Aubusson, Luke Lewis. Crazy stuff!

I think 300 is much more common now.

Only two players Geoff Gerard and Terry Lamb played over 300 games without playing in the NRL era.

1996 was the beginning of the full time era the final season Lamb played.

Another two players Paul Langmack and Cliff Lyons limped into the NRL era.

With the interchange and the game being a full time job players can go on a bit longer.

Plus better training and better treatment for injuries. Better prevention of injuries. Cleaner game.

Yes all that too.

Terry Lamb was and always be my favourite football player. He started during the Fibros era and played in Dogs of War era during this time he and all other players had some kind of job whilst playing on weekends. The good players often just bludged in a cellar or had a development role they still had to show up.

Mark Nichols is a rarity in that he does work one day a week he's probably the only player in today's game that will work a day.

So the chances of a longer career with full time training and better treatment & rehab is actually greater.

I disagree it is common now but these guys have been in the game over a decade already and got their numbers up. A new player now entering the game will lose probably a season of their careers sat out due to protocol stand downs alone. Let along bone/joint/muscle injuries.

In 15years time let revisit this and see how many of the last 2 years Rookies have hit 300.
