The competition for next year is split into 2

Top 5 - Panthers, Storm, Bulldogs, Broncos, Sharks

And the rest battling for spots 6-8

The Broncos will be interesting. So will the Sharks.

Broncos, new coach, and ever aging half. I don't think they will be top 5 at all.

I think it's a comp in 2 again. Penrith and Storm. Daylight, then the rest don't matter to be fair, because the top 2 are so far in front it's not funny.

Sharks, Will Hynes bounce back? or will he suck up cap space while playing badly, as they let Atkinson go (Dragons), who for the most part played better. Not sure about the Sharks.

Roosters will fall the most.

Wests Tigers will be the biggest improver. Whilst they won't be top 8, I don't see them being as easy to beat.

Though I'm sure their fans will be delighted by the re-signing of Kyle Flanagan. He was in hot demand but Dragons outbid half a dozen other clubs for his prized signature. Canberra will also struggle but they brought in quite a few young players last year who'll be much better this year.

Broncos probably scrape into the 8. Reynolds is well past his best and Hunt isn't a playmaker. Walsh, Staggs, Cobbo won't be as good with Hunt in the team.
Dolphins will be right up there if we have a bit of luck with not many injuries to forwards and Katoa continues his upward trajectory.
Not convinced by Manly. DCE in the same boat as Reynolds and Jake Turbo on massive overs and they are still paying Josh Schuster a lot. Something will have to give with their cap.
Roosters going downhill but not by as much as a lot of people are predicting. Might still scrape into the 8 after a rough first half of the season. In the second half Manu will be back along with Walker and Smith.
Spoon out of the Warriors and Dragons. Kyle Flanagan vs who? Who is going to be the Warriors halfback and 5/8?

Is Plath another you don't rate? You rate SOS but not Plath and Katoa.

You don't. I like taking a critical view at things. I think it's useful. But FFS, you rate SOS but not Katoa and Plath. That is just bizarre.

Wish: A witch doctor for the Bennett curse​

Real or imagined, clubs struggle in their post-Wayne Bennett era. The Dolphins’ succession plan with Kristian Woolf has been long established, however so was Souths’ with Jason Demetriou.

In Woolf’s favour is his relationship with key Dolphins: half Isaiya Katoa and veteran forward Felise Kaufusi while coaching Tonga, and Hamiso Tabuai-Fidow during his time at North Queensland.

He’s also a proven winner, having led St Helens to English Super League titles in each of his three seasons. They could also do with a magic fix for Tom Flegler’s nerve issue in his shoulder.

Media pundits are very negative in Dolphins chances next year. Several are predicting a bottom 4 finish.

I think the WB factor is coming into play here. Teams tend to struggle after he departs. A lot of times, he is the only bit of glue holding the place together eg. Newcastle, Brisbane (second time).

The Dolphins are different though. He built an expansion team from scratch and has had his successor helping him with the full knowledge that he would take over after two years. His successor has had a very successful career thus far and the players are already familiar with his style.

The Dolphins have a very good roster. Flegs and Trai will be sorely missed but even without them, they still look rather imposing. If they have any luck on the injury front, they will be very tough to beat IMO.

Anyways, it won't be long now. The footy season comes along really quickly once the new year arrives. I'm really looking forward to the upcoming campaign.
