What's new

Off Topic - Other Clubs

You can't fix stupid unfortunately

How ridiculous is it as a professional athlete on six figures that you would drive while high instead of just getting an uber

If they want to do cocaine in the off season that's dumb but how much dumber is it to either drive while high/drunk or post about it on social media yet EVERY YEAR without fail one or the other or both happen

Bears are in big trouble. Not a good roster, Mal is not up to it as head coach, and the administration is already shifting.

Best outcome of the two new clubs coming in is that we gain credibility as the only new club that didn't immediately crumble.

Was thinking the same. They are going to struggle for a few years.

Mal was the worst person for the job.

The biggest hoax in league.

Look what Wayne did with us. He galvanised. He set direction of the club, he was involved in every aspect.

Mal is literally useless. His 30sec political stint is a classic example.

PNG have already had their CEO Andrew Hill and Chairman Ray Dib quit the club too. They're now just a one person operation with Michael Chammas and everyone else is there for the photos.

The problem with Perth is the the North Sydney faction and Meninga. The comments in here illustrate Meninga very well no more needs to be added.

The Perth board is made up of 4 from WA none with League background, 3 from Norths made up of a failed Federal Treasurer who specialised in factional games, an Elvis impersonator and a TV frontman that reads auto cues for a living and 2 from V'Landys that makes all the real decisions.

NRL set Dolphins up to fail as well but they got just TWO things right the obvious was the condition Bennett be coach but the big one was being the board structure which is made up of 5 from Redcliffe Leagues Club and 1 from Village Motors the NRL condition of a woman on the board so Redcliffe chose the owner of Village Motors very smart move. All people with long involvements at all levels of Rugby League and know the Redcliffe area inside out.

Perth Bears board makes Wests Tigers look very functional.

North Sydney should never have been allowed to have any board or management involvement with the Perth Bears just nickname, logo, colours and heritage use.

Didn't he also pay off a woman, when you could still do that, who claimed he sexually assaulted her? Something he should have kept in mind when he went into bat for the NRL over the farcical "no fault" stand down policy? In a civilised country, a man or woman is innocent until proven guilty.

nah i dont think there was anything other than a old associate of his brother getting in a punch up with him thats all i can remember

Not a club I would want to play at

The Culture there must be pathetic.

The other thing, as a coach, I would be having hard conversation with players at a place I knew it would stay between player and coach. the fact that he has to walk out of Ciraldo's office with other people seeing is amateur at best. Ciraldo, being the next Bennett, should know better.

The other thing, hard conversations are a must, but the art of a good coach, is knowing your players and how they respond best, some players need an arm around them, some respond to hard conversations, some respond to video etc. Bennett does this well. AT the end of the day they were trying to win as a group, that conversation, how it was delivered and where it was delivered obviously had a bad effect on the environment. And could have been the reason they were ass. And that's all on Management. The other thing is, develop the fella, don't just tell him he is shit and move on. Good coaches can develop and turn these guys around, fly by nighters do what's mentioned in that article.

Id be concerned reading that as a Bulldogs fan.

Watch him kill it under Bellamy. He isn't that bad a player. He is Bradman Best like if I had to pigeon hole him, and good coaching can get him there.

Xerri strikes me as someone who has the talent but is mentally weak when things are hard hence the taking steroids to cheat earlier in his career etc

Mal is an absolute cancer to have at your club in any off field role ask me how I know this as a former Titans fan lol

Bears are fucked until he is gone at least from any decision making capacity I am definitely going to have a decent bet on them winning the spoon in their first season or their team total wins under depending which line is better closer to the start of the season I can only see three other clubs with any chance at a spoon at all on Wests Titans and Dragons and all three should win at least five or six games minimum, I will be beyond shocked if the bears win 6 games in their first season their squad is horrible and they have a bad coach on top of that. They will probably pick up a couple of wins maybe one during the origin period and one when a bad team has an off day against them but they are going to be on the wrong end of some huge beatdowns and I struggle to see how that team scores points on a weekly basis they will struggle the way the Dragons did this year with that.

Thats my point.

He has the talent, but needs managing differently. A good coach gets the best out of him. Because a good coach discovers what makes him tick.

Ciraldo, as per his systems alluded to in the article, isnt that coach.

It's the classic case of club reputation actually influencing a player before the coach has to say anything. The storm have such a tireless reputation that anyone who gets signed there you know there is a reason, and from the moment they put pen to paper they are aiming up, because that sort of club won't let them be average.

Flipside is titans, tigers, dragons, and so on where their reputation as shit clubs is enough for a player to take their foot off the gas so to speak because what is the club gonna do? They were bad before they signed the new player and are still bad. How do you blame the player and how does the player blame themselves enough to lift not just their own game but the whole team in the same boat?

Very glad we don't fall into this category.

To be fair the Storm completely failed with Pahulu recently and have had a few players regress there in the past year for the first time in forever. Their forwards and backs were pretty horrible this year, Munster regressed a bit but more due to age than coaching i'd imagine and Pahulu looked like a blue chip first grader debuting young at the Titans until they drove him out of the club trying to nickle and dime him over a bonus, Storm picked him up and then he just disappeared so obviously didn't develop as intended and is now off to the Raiders most likely. He was touted as a possible future origin player when he was 18 and now he's stuck outside first grade at 22.

They've pretty clearly failed to develop Howarth to his potential too, he had one good year in 2025 but has otherwise been close to a bust for a blue chip prospect as well and at this point yes he's a first grader but barely.

Pezet and Wishart don't seem to be the new Munster and Hughes either the way the Storm clearly initially intended them to be and now both have moved on. Pezet may still make it at the Broncos but it's TBD

Cooper Clarke seems to be going well but beyond that they don't seem to be developing anyone special at the moment, Fa'alogo obviously has insane talent in attack and is going well in that regard but he's still a defensive liability at this point granted he has time. TBD on their new young halfback as we haven't seen enough of him yet

I would have thought for sure Pahulu would be a solid first grader by now though but he's gone from looking like the third best middle at the Titans when he was way too young to be playing first grade to just nothing at the Storm.

Yeah it is odd to see how it played out but what I was focussing on was just the reputation which I think will stand beyond this year, despite the result, and then as long as Bellamy is coach, and then even longer if they land Slater.

Think about how much failure it would take to dilute the reputation of a club like the storm or the Panthers enough that people think they can slack off. Roosters are an odd one because everyone knows their reputation but they also know you will get looked after there beyond what most other clubs can manage.

It's actually quite a big season for the Storm

I think there's a real risk they miss finals again and if they do, Harry Grant may look for an exit ramp (saw he was linked to the Knights, can you imagine him unlocking that Knights backline) and at that point as Hughes and Munster age out or Munster leaves, it could be a legitimate decline for the Storm. The Storm absolutely cannot afford to lose Grant, they would have been absolute rubbish without him this season as bad as they were with him.

They really, really need to make the finals this year to retain their aura and I think they're only 50/50 to do it despite the betting odds pricing them as contenders I really don't see that side that way anymore. Their forward pack lacks punch and they still have an issue with their centres and Fa'alogo defensively and Hughes and Munster are both clearly starting to decline a bit, more so Munster. They still have the spine to make some noise and will have two good wingers this year but beyond the wingers and spine the side is pretty poor

Losing Elisea Katoa and NAS really hurt them in terms of strike power even though NAS was a liability with penalties and obviously they've missed Coates a lot but there has been a clear decline from several of their players in the last year or two that will need to reverse this season or they may end up needing a full rebuild post Bellamy

I suspect Pahulu will be seeing more of the Mounties coach than Ricky.
Storm have depth, just they are very young. Two promising players from QLD in the halves and hooker.

Looks to me the Storm might be going for a complete overhaul. Munster is as good as gone and maybe Grant as well. After those 2, who will be left of the team which came second to Penrith a few years ago? I guess Jerome Hughes only.
