Disappointing result last round. We really have to do something about Newcastle. This game was better than previous ones because we weren't the better team, as we have been for a number of the last 6 losses against them.

Anyway, Sharks this week. I doubt all the Origin players will back up but hopefully some will. Hammer in particular after Trai had a bit of a shocker, to call a spade a spade. Katoa is the one we are really missing but hopefully after Schnieder gets a bit of rev during the week and is much better.

There is always the options of rejigging the backline because we have Kodi, Averillo and Donoghue who are all good utilities.

The real problem with any potential Dolphins spine is that none of Hammer, Fuller, Averillo, Nikorima, Donoghoe, Plath and Marshall-King have a kicking game it all falls onto Katoa and Schneider. I would even argue that Katoa's weakness is that his kicking game is not as strong as some of the best currently in the NRL.

But of the players outside of Marshall-King and Katoa the most creative and skillful is Donoghoe by a mile. It's probably up to Woolf to find a way to give him 80mins at 13 and base a lot of attack around him.

I thought Kodi is an ok kicker.

Doesn't look natural to him he kicks because literally no one else can.

I might put myself through the pain of re-watching some of the Averillo halfback days to see what kicking he done aside from goal kicking.

Schneider at Penrith had support from Edwards and Yeo. Hammer is improving with his ball play but is still more of an open space and support player. Woolf needs to find a way to increase Donoghoe's minutes with the licence to overcall when required. He's been able to string 8 of the last 9 games including the last 7 so his fitness or hamstring no longer an issue.

He's not a good choice for a first choice kicker but seems to be do fine as a back up.

think that's one the reasons we looking at Williams he does kick

and think thats another reason why we need more support with senior heads in halfs ( with a number of our halfs n jmk getting injured ) its great having someone leading the ship ( brad taking over izzy is hard for him as not on his preferred side )

A club can't afford to have more than one good halfback on the books. Salary cap won't allow it. Unless we somehow re-sign Kodi and Williams is content to play for Redcliffe unless Katoa is injured.

Exactly right. This league is about effective salary cap management. Then Talent. You could go out and get the best player in the comp, and spend way overs to get him, and you'd still lose, because you cant surround him with other players to support him.

You need to balance what you pay players with the talent they bring in the position they bring it. Committing too much to one position will leave you short elsewhere.

This is the point of the discussion we have been having over the lock position and the Williams recruitment.

obviously can if woolfs going round saying they can fit both in the team a coach be hardly saying that if we couldn't would he pluds cap goes up this coming year and majorly for 2028 so come back to me

when you work out why coach would openly say that as hardly going say that kinda thing if we cant

got more chance broncos winning a premiership than woolf putting willams in cup side the fact we looking at leota and hes nowhere near on what dans on tells you we got money

Someone still thinks Donoghoe should be sent back to Capras LOL

not even sure why your commenting , kurt if hadnt changed positions wouldnt have a nrl contract ( nor an international spot and be leaving a huge hole for fiji as wouldnt be many fijian decent halfs ) international half not even good enough to get a half spot

if woolf wants him( george in his side he be there ) as hes shown why we need strong deepth and one keys he talks about and than next man up scenario also the fact we may have orgin changing we going need stacks depth if we can get leota n williams that gives stacks of fire power we we light on numbers during that period

George Williams will reportedly be on 800 k per season. Katoa is currently earning 650. There isn't any money left for Kodi. The fact that they are looking to re-sign Schneider (guesstimate 300-350) probably means that they are not anticipating Knik being in a Dolphin uniform in '27.

That makes sense but is really bad news.

Hypothetical. What's important is that for the last year and a half, he's arguably been our best player.

guess we soon see the fact woolf keeps saying theres enough for both ) on top of brad suggests we good chance ) especailly with new broadcasting deal i guess cap be well increased could even be 20 mil come 2028

Triple M and Inside Ball both reported the offer to Nikorima is a lowball one basically to say yeah we offered him a deal but he said no to the deal.

Nikorima days as a utility are over he's evolved into a specialist 5/8 and a very good one at that. He didn't have his best game on Sunday a lot of others were in the same boat namely JMK.

I do think with Katoa out needs some tweaking especially now Donoghoe has gotten over his hamstring issues. I think the try he set up and scored was very telling in that he cut out his own halfback to give Averillo some clean ball. On one side you had Hunt who can't tackle and the other side you had Gagai whilst a winner does struggle with powerful running centres in a one on one contest with some space Mitchell has baked him many times in the past but only once did Herbie or Averillo look threatening and it was when Donoghoe was involved.

Woolf makes no secret that Donoghoe is in the 17 every week he's available.

Lol kodi wouldn't care less what kinda money hes in he took less to come here so at the age he is its footy je wants to play n some how doubt williams be accepting anywhere near 800k lol inside hall n triple m lol
