Why The Dolphins?

Always curious about why people have chosen to support this club.

I initially followed them loosely as they joined the comp the year I actually decided to pay attention to every round and listen to the news around the game. Then I saw some highlights of the Hammer and got drawn in to the team. Watched some more games, looked into the players, and finally understood what it was like to have a team you wanted to see win every week, and what it felt like to really get down when they lost. Season 2024 was the year I was obsessed with Max Plath, and season 2025 was the year I was obsessed with Kurt Donoghoe. Every season I see the roster get refined and the culture of the club settle and I'm excited for every game and now for every season, which i doubt many other fans can say about their chosen club.

What made me want to ask was I met someone at my work this week who supports this team simply because he has the same last name as one of our players, which we both had a laugh about.

So yeah, why do you all support The Dolphins?

Because i needed rid of the Dragons.

Honestly though. Im a local, and I love the area. So when a fou d out i was gettibg my local team i. The comp, i was on board.

Then the rest followed. Which solidified everything else.

Same as liverbird , emigrated from uk 2008 moved to Scarborough supported the tigers but watched the q cup Redcliffe. As soon as they announced the dolphins all in on them Suncorp member.

I supported the Broncos but my heart was never really in it. I'm from the area so naturally dropped the Broncos when we came into the competition.

I was a Broncos fan. Not from Redcliffe but nearby. Was happy to jump ship and don't regret it.

I live in the area. Previously supported GC. Was also happy to jump ship. For the life of me, I can't understand why GC have been so bad for so long.

I was a huge Bronco fan for 25+ years, but I ditched them after they fired WB in 2018 and replaced him with a spud. I was in rugby league limbo for a couple of years there as I couldn't find anyone else that I could fully support. I even lost interest in the game somewhat.

Enter Redcliffe for 2023 led by WB and my interest in RL was quickly restored. I have greatly enjoyed following these guys (despite the many lows) and I definitely look forward to the future.

I had never switched allegiances in any sport before as I have been a Cincinnati Red, Boston Bruin and Saskatchewan Roughrider fan since I was a kid. But I'm glad I made this switch despite the Bronco's recent success. The Dolphins will see their fair share of that in the coming years.

Y yonathonjoung Gold Coast is a very interesting story absolute chaos the pot of gold in Tweed Heads was always going to come to an end but the NSWRL saw a Gold Coast based team run by Tweed Heads the same as the Canberra based team run by Queanbeyan Leagues except Queanbeyan had a much more sound financial management, it wasn't a fools paradise like Tweed Heads and they had two very good families involved being the McIntyre's and Furner's. Much of the Dolphins NRL foundation is very similar to the Canberra Raiders except Dolphins are Redcliffe in every sense without the name Redcliffe whereas Canberra created an identity that would make them firmly an ACT team.

Some of the chapters I struggled to listen too but now I can because the game in 2025 is now much stronger than 1994 with the exception of the bush & England. The more I listen to the podcasts the more it's easy to despise the Broncos for what they done to the Crushers, Gold Coast, attempted to do to Titans & Dolphins and the BRL. They were prepared to kill the game to kill off Crushers & Gold Coast.

Redcliffe Dolphins supporter in the Queensland Cup since 1998 and became a member of their Leagues Club in 1998 I absolutely love the Leagues Club. I had this view in 1999 that Redcliffe Dolphins had to be part of the 14-team competition the next season and when they went to 16 it should have been Redcliffe before Gold Coast. Greater Brisbane is the second largest Rugby League region in the world and the state of Queensland has been badly under represented at NRL level for decades. Been watching Trai Fuller very closely since he made his Redcliffe debut in 2018, he tore Easts apart in the 2018 grand final and I'm so glad he's done well at every NRL opportunity he's got. The tries he's scored against Manly and Brisbane two of the best individual efforts.

What made Kurt Donoghoe stand out for you in 2025? There are still some out there who don't think he should be in the Dolphins 17 next year and I believe there's only 3 ways he doesn't play in the 17 next year that's either injury, suspension or NSW Origin selection.

Farnworth, Katoa and Donga did sweep the 6 major player awards winning 2 each so very clear cut Top 3 performers and the RLPA awards nominated them 3 & Hammer as the Dolphins 4 best in 2025.

Not sure about Origin selection. I rate him but he's not a good hooker. If he were selected for Origin he'd need to be a utility who can play hooker. Maybe if Woolf has him training in that role in the off season, he'll be much better as a hooker.

Yeah he wore the 9. That's in the wet. because alot of us see big name players getting in over lesser lights just because we were decimated in the previous season , you need to have able reserve graders stepping up and just dont see the guys that were in our side prior to the injury's missing out do you ? and lets face it kurt played that many games because that very reason right from day dot 1st game where kodi was sick


alot of fans i get it want see fan favs in like val in previous years like plath in previous years will continue on over next few years

Had a great season as a 13 but Plath or Gilbert aren't good #14s, Donoghue is.
