Finally a big signing! I guess he's going to play fullback. I wonder if there's any possibility of getting him a year early. To have a gun fullback would dramatically increase our chances of making the finals. The forward pack is certainly good enough. 5/8 and the 3/4 line are a problem but with Farnworth at fullback and the Hammer on a wing or in the centres, game on!

Brisbane Broncos star Herbie Farnworth signs three-year deal with Dolphins

Broncos star Herbie Farnworth has shockingly backflipped on a reported extension with the club, signing a three-year deal with the Dolphins for 2024 and beyond.
The 23-year-old has established himself as one of the NRL's best centres in recent years, scoring 19 tries in 53 games for Brisbane and representing England in the recent World Cup.

Signed until the end of 2023 with Brisbane, Farnworth had attracted plenty of interest from rival clubs and despite a report from The Courier Mail last month indicating that Farnworth was set remain at the Broncos, he has decided to take the money on offer at Redcliffe. Dolphins CEO Terry Reader was pleased to land the signature of Farnworth and believes he can make a huge difference to the club.

Ive come over from the Broncos as a long time supporter and he was one of favourites. I'm stoked.

Also - feel free to merge/delete my thread, so we can keep the conversation in one place.

Still trying to work out how the threads are being managed 🤪

If there was one player we could poach from them, it would have been toss-up between Farnworth and Payne Haas.

No problem. We have only been online for about 2 weeks. At this point, any content is good. Unless it's illegal of course.

He will almost certainly be a better fullback than the Hammer as a worst case scenario but has long been considered a potential star fullback. That's why a lot of people expressed surprise the Broncos signed Walsh. Because Farnworth and Cobbo are agitating for fullback.

Every player off-contract at the end of 2023

DOLPHINS

Players off contract: 6

  • Herman Ese'ese (PO 2024): He will stay. Won't get offer anywhere else.
  • JJ Collins: Who is this?
  • Oliver Gildart: Why isn't he being talked about for a starting centre spot?
  • Poasa Faamausili: Bye
  • Tesi Niu: Has a chance to prove himself.
  • Michael Roberts: Jimmy the Jet's brother. Seems he hasn't kicked on to be NRL standard.

I think Roberts is only 19 this year.

After a search Collins appears to have had a short stint from 16-19 across a few clubs but never made it. Nothing since 2019. Sounds like roster padding

Michael Roberts is a 5/8. So even though O'Sullivan (does this guy have a nick name?) was good in the trials, we might end up with Katoa and Roberts in the halves. Not this year but from next year.

Dolphins land another major Broncos blow

The Dolphins have continued a raid on cross-town rival Brisbane by poaching a second star in the space of a few days.

After announcing the signing of gun centre Herbie Farnworth on Friday, the Redcliffe club has now pinched State of Origin forward Thomas Flegler from the Broncos.

Fleger will arrive at the Dolphins next year, alongside Farnworth.

The forward is signed on a four-year deal.

Looking good for next year. Just have to keep it respectable this year.

Flegler deal a must-do for desperate Dolphins

The newest club has overpaid for the front-rower, and rightfully so.

Dolphins have signed Thomas Flegler on a whopping 4 year deal reported to be worth around $3.3 million, and while fans will claim the front-rower is overpaid, it's good business by the club. The NRL's newest side suffered an absolute stinker maiden recruitment drive, snaring several experienced forwards on the wrong side of 30, and a backline languishing in the reserve grade last season.

Flegler's deal is worth an estimated $825,000 per season, $150,000 per year more than his current club the Broncos were willing to offer the front-rower on an extension. It begs the question - is the prop worth what the Dolphins are paying him? In short, no. But is it a good move by the Dolphins to pay Flegler that much to lure him to the club? Absolutely!
