Recruitment and Retention for 2027

You don't think Bostock will leave his wittle brafer in law here all by his pwor wittle self?

I don't think what his "adult" brother in law or "adult" sister want even enters into his calculations.
who said hes leaving yeah he get offers of ovas from dragons ( but where they going put him with there new recurits )

and donn't see him getting anywhere near what we will offer from another club outside of dragons

so step up and tell us all where hes going as bar the dragons i doubt ant pf the other clubs want pay 800k plus for him

I never said he's leaving. Though I think we will lose one of Hammer, Herbie or Bostock. I'm just saying I'm sure whatever his brother in law wants doesn't enter into his calculations. Why would it?

Lol one will go isn't that leaving come back when worked which one is

as mate said to me hammers had no intrest herbie aint going to chocks especially if they cant afford walker theres no way they afford herbie ( as well as wanting marky mark back)
as for bostock dragons probbaly offer over but wheres he fitting in new side

the less theres no talk about then the better ( oh we got salary cap issues ) wait aint the cap going up this year and next think people listen to media to much

Walker leaving the Roosters

Bhahahahaah

Herbie will be playing by himself at the rate at which they are losing players.

Credit to Politis. I would have done the same to him.

That's disappointing. I guess that means Herbie is going there. Nevermind the fact the Roosters are supposed to have not even talked to him.

Everyone is testing the market this window, all teams are going to lose and gain players.

The question is, will they pay overs.

The long term damage of paying overs far outweighs the short to gain. The Tigers and the Bulldogs in their endless table spiral are great examples. Now that the Bulldogs are still paying players that don't play for them, it slowly puts a rope around their neck to the point where cheating is the only way to get ahead.

Politis did the right thing with Walker. He is a smart operator, and whilst fans may cry about losing him, the long term success of that club is more important. Fast forward to us and Herbie/Bostock and Hammer. Do we want the rope of an overpaid centre around our necks? The Bulldogs and Crighton say hello (they even moved that overpaid cunt to 5/8th to create value)

I do think everyones worries are misplaced. And you need to be very careful about what you're wishing for.

If we are paying Herbie and Bostock combined 2.3mil to keep them at centre, goodluck in affording the talent in the areas it takes to win a comp.

The bottom pic says it all

if they cant aford what walker wants no way is herbie taking less

On the topic of centres

Lavender had a dominating 2026 NRLQ campaign in the centres for the Dolphins as he develops swiftly to push for an NRL debut.

His four-year deal will advance him heavily into NRL conversations in 2027, especially given the exit of Jamayne Isaako at the end of this year, freeing up space on the backline.

He, a centre, won't be offered as much as Walker, a halfback.
And more importantly, They now need to find a halfback, which they will need to prize away from someone. Paying overs?

This is all an Agents honeypot at the moment. Players testing the market and holding clubs to ransom.

The Raiders and now Politis have done what every club should do, hold the line, stay the process and trust in cap management.

Clubs like the Dragons and Tigers are where they are for a reason. Paying overs and panic buying trying to move up the table fast with out doing the hard work and putting a winning infrastructure in place.

best centre in comp wanting long term future here will be wanting least 1.2-1.3m if on 850-900k now ( 800k ish will be what jack will want )

Not one club has showed any interest in Hammer so Dolphins shouldn't be breaking the bank for him.
Officially they aren't allowed to until November 1st but I get what you are saying. It seems no clubs are scrambling after his signature. With the cap rising as it is, he's worth 1 mil max. Not the 1.4 he's said to be asking for. Though if he goes to PNG, around 750k is equivalent to 1.4 mil for every other club.

Not sure what Matt wrote.

If we are talking Herbie to the Roosters, young GC half to the Roosters etc. Politis pulled a 1.3mil offer off the table for a half back that wants 1.7mil. If anyone honestly believes he is going to offer a centre that, or a young half back overs, fill your boots (ie you're off you're rocker). If the Roosters where cheating, and paying under the tables offers, would Politis do what he just did? NO, he would of just snuck a few hundred thousand to Walker under the table.

Now you're talking 750k for someone worth 1.4mil to PNG. Go check the Hudson Young case. The NRL put a stop to that. They are suggesting that they have to be on the books for a value that the NRL approve or they wont rubber stamp the deal. (even less room for this so called cheating).

The NRL know they have fucked up the PNG situation with the tax free thingo. And before it got too out of hand, they screw Hudson Young doing it too, before the the comp becomes no point with a team that has double the talent for half the price.

Interesting article that raises some good points (its an opinion piece)
This will be the biggest 12 months of player signings in the sport's history.

The Dolphins and Perth Bears have certainly generated headlines and seen players change clubs, but that will not compare to the PNG Chiefs, who can begin signing the rest of their squad from November 1.

And that's why we have a testing the market frenzy by managers, a point I made a few weeks back. PNG inflating the market beyond what others can afford. The best way is to take the offers away, and when PNG don't sign them (because they cant sign everyone, and the NRL wont register silly contracts under valued), some of these players will be left hold their dicks with nowhere to go, because of an agents pay day.

The smart operators will hold the line, and pick up a bargain later, mark my words. Politis knows what he is doing.

They have a couple of halfbacks in their pathways. A guy called **** Rodwell for one.

Yeah, Politis knows what he is doing, he will lean on his juniors. He has a winning infrastructure set up at his club. And he did that because the dodgy years are over. And the cost of doing what use to be done isn't worth the reward, definitely not financially.

We should be doing the same in relation to cap management and juniors.

I still think it is worth re-signing Herbie on 1.2m and Bostock on 800k or so assuming that is achievable with the cap going up

I agree we shouldn't be offering Hammer more than 1m a season or so maybe a little over after the cap goes up but definitely nowhere near 1.4

I think between offloading Flegler and Kaufusi retiring (and ideally offloading Knowles when his deal is up) as well as Lemuelu we can probably save enough cap space to make it work. It'll mean having to get some cheap forwards for a season or so and only pay Plath and Donoghoe as far as forwards go but if we can keep that much of the side together with the juniors we have coming through to fill the gaps. There are probably only three expensive players to re sign next year, Katoa, Donoghoe and Plath and Katoa won't demand overs out of loyalty to the club so i'm sure we can keep him on 1.2m a season or so even if he might get 1.4+ on the open market

Beyond that we just don't have any other marquee players to re sign and it's worth noting we've freed up a bit of cap space between Averillo, Isaako, Safiti, Keeley, Nikorima and Stone already and only signed Williams which is Nikorima money plus maybe 200k, and then Kain Anderson presumably is a min wage roster filler depth signing

The only players signed past 2028 are Cobbo, Finefuiaki, Lavender and Naufahu so we have full flexibility next year regarding who to prioritise keeping and who to let go.

I assume if we do lose one of Bostock or Herbie then Lavender is an obvious candidate to replace them by 2028 since both are with us for 2027

Matt didn't suggest they will offer a centre the same as a halfback.
