Recruitment and Retention for 2027

Times like these I feel like the dolphins system is really being tested. Our admin is willing to take risks on unwanted players, but now for once they have to sort out this very expensive puzzle. My faith lies with them because of the support of our three feeder clubs and the Redcliffe association in general, as in we have got so much right, even when on field wasn't great, that I hope we can keep taking lessons as they come. If this all plays out in our favour then brilliant but if it doesn't we need to remember why it didn't.

Regardless of who we end up with in the backline we have not only all our feeder clubs to dip into, but a young Katoa who is becoming such a fantastic leader, alongside Gilbert who I think is doing very well to pay back the club for their faith during his injuries.

it wont be tested if we do it right as ceo said other day know player is going be in first grade side if aint ready and we are on right path look at last two seasons we building and building, we will have players go as they on the belief of next man up and if they cant get them with on our system they go for others in other systems

I reckon all our off contract players want to stay.

I think they hold up is trying to fit them in at a price acceptable to all 3. not saying we will.

The good thing is, as per the Katoa interview. He reckons they all want to stay, because the dressing room is good, the footy is good, and they are winning.

i would say we hear more from players n resignings after the 7th nov as thats when players back

Best, despite getting 4 mil over 4 years is going to test the market.

WOW.

If I were the knights, I would pull the offer off the table and tell him to fill his boots.

what you expect when his father in law is ex eels ledgend n connected to all there big money backers

Cap is going up, 1m is prob close to his market value as what maybe the third best centre in the game on form although maybe fifith or so overall? The only centres ahead of him are Herbie and Toia, then Latrell and Crichton probably are on ability but not on form.

That said the Knights actually can afford to lose him since in theory they can move Fletcher Sharpe into the centres with Brown and Smith in the halves although less touches for Sharpe is probably a bad thing if they move him out of the spine and they're losing Gagai as well.

Will be interesting to see if he stays at the Knights or moves on

Clubs can't have a hissy fit over players testing their market value, same as we can't over our three stars who may end up not signing before Nov 1, doesn't mean we shouldn't re sign them at their market value if it's reasonable and I expect we will keep at least two of Herbie/Bostock/Hammer and hopefully all three

What's fascinating is there is just NO buzz around Hammer going anywhere else at all. No talk of other clubs being interested in him, etc whereas speculation is going crazy for Herbie and Bostock and plenty of players at other clubs

not so much bostock only his ex club, hammer wont leave he loves it up here so do lot of the guys and added bounus guys like herbie selwyn finn n others he gets on well with i dont see bostock going to sydney ( for one simple reason wouldnt let go jake ) as no way are herbie n hammer or centres with trai at fullback fulltime

He wants more then 1m which is prob his value. He has ratchet clauses (which takes cap increase into account) in that offer

I suspect there will be a lot of clubs panic buying guys and then spitting the dummy about it later because of this cap increase. Clubs are gonna see one or two players go for overs then think that's what everyone is owed, then storm and panthers and hopefully us as well will let people go as required and get who we can on the budget and make it work.

Stay the course, stick to your cap plan, and don't pay overs. lean on junior systems to fill the void of losing guys for overs.

The Panthers should show people why this works. Especially in the non essential positions.

The most important positions on the field in my opinion are, in no specific order. 7, 9, 1, prop, 6. If you are paying overs in other areas (or any area for that matter), I reckon you're doing it wrong, and setting yourself up for mediocrity.

Not that we are doing it totally correct.

I think we have wasted money at 13.

I think we have over payed for Williams, when we could have had similar performance for less with Kodi. Hope to be proven wrong.

We have skimped on Prop talent.

And, whilst I think Cobbo is awesome. I think we might have paid him overs.

Saw a rumour that the Knights might be interested in Flegler somewhere

No idea if accurate or not, but if they lose Best they might have money to throw at him

I still think us losing Flegler, Knowles and Kaufusi plus probably Lemuelu is going to be the key to balancing the cap, keeping everyone else and ideally adding a serviceable middle or two

At the end of the day I feel like if we can keep Herbie, Hammer, Bostock, Plath, Donoghoe and Katoa, the window basically stays open as long as we do that now that we have Cobbo and Naufahu on the wings and Pouniu and Finefuiaki in the second row

Nervous times waiting for November hopefully we keep everyone we want. In the meantime we can enjoy Herbie doing some brutal things to France today (and hopefully Williams gets a half dozen try assists, granted against reserve grade level opposition today)
