  • New elections, minus the pro-Russian parties, whom opinion polls show have the support of the majority of the population.
  • Zelensky runs on a ticket of ending the war in the east and repairing relations with Russia. He also says the time has come for 2 languages to stop being used within the government and that Russian should be the only language. (apparently Ukrainian is very close to Russian. Basically a dialect.)
  • Zelensky wins the election.
  • He goes to the front line in the east, literally asks the Nazis to stop shelling Donetsk and other communities. He is laughed at. Given a kick up the backside and sent on his way.
  • Ukraine becomes a Nazi terror state outright while before it was only in pockets.
  • The first president after the coup says openly the Minsk Accords were a sham Ukraine never had any intention of fulfilling.
  • The war starts.
  • The then president of France and Chancellor of Germany openly admit the Minsk Accords were a sham they never had any intention of pressuring Ukraine to fulfill. A week later, just in case anyone missed it the first time, Merkel says it again.
At the point I should point out the Minsk Accords were co-signed by France and Germany and made into international law via a unanimous vote in UNSC, including USA, Uk, France.
Personally, the only side I'm on is the side of Australia staying out of it! How good would it be if Australia just kept quiet in our little corner of the world, traded with everyone as much as possible but didn't seek to be enemies or allies of anyone?

Ohh sorry, cause it's in our General Talk thread. There's not a great deal of political talk in that thread anymore. The start of the war when there were still people backing Russia, there was a bit of bashing them to make them realise what was happening. Other than that, it's just been the odd update on what's going on. Will probably see more once the next UA offensive begins.

The current political debate on BHQ is around the subs and US influence on Australia 🙃

We need to be able to defend ourselves. The 40's showed that.

It's a good time to state that for it's entire history until 1991, the Ukraine was just another oblast of Russia. A region maybe about the size of Victoria. The Soviets increase the size of the Ukraine by about 300%. Later Stalin adds parts of Hungary and Romania to punish them for the invasion of the Soviet Union. Later still the Ukrainian Khrushchev adds the Crimea to the Ukraine. Purely ceremonial.

So back to how we got here:
  • All the pro-Russian parties, even nominally pro-Russian parties in the Ukraine are banned.
  • On the Ukrainian side, unabashed Nazis are on the front line.
  • Observers from the OSCE are sent it to see who isn't adhering to the terms of the Minsk Accords. The Donbas militia complains that they are spies. This is later proven to be true.
  • The Nazis refuse to follow the terms of the Minsk Accords.
  • Ukraine becomes an economic basket case. In such an environment, Nazi ideology finds fertile land to bloom.
  • Somewhat earlier, people peacefully protesting against the coup regime in Odessa, mostly women, are burned alive by the Nazis. Not a word about it by the collective West regimes. After that, no one is in a hurry to protest even though in the ensuing years the regime is spectacularly unpopular.

Kievan Rus'
Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth

Ukraine is not Russian.

Of course. But 3 things.
  1. To not be in any alliance and not be enemies with anyone would make the chances of an invasion extremely unlikely. At least in the foreseeable future.
  2. Could defend ourselves. Fortify the northern coast. Not all. Just the parts where people live. Not even China could land a few divisions in north-west WA and move them all the way down to Perth or Adelaide.
  3. Which is why, as you mention it, this sub thing to me looks utterly mental! WTF, is Australia going to cruise up around the Chinese coast and take the war to China? Diesel electric subs to defend the coast of Australia makes military sense, IMO. But special interests, pressure from "allies" and etc maybe don't like those kinds of subs so much.

I don't mind China invading if they have a couple of good centres and maybe a quick 5/8 we can use.

Kievan Rus'
Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth
What does that mean? Obviously you aren't saying Kievan Rus, an amalgamation of mostly Slavic, also Viking and Finno-Ugric tribes and the birthplace of Russian civilisation, founded about 1000 years before the Polish-Lithuanian Commonwealth existed was Polish and/or Lithuanian. That would be just trolling.

Though the Russians should make clear that if Germany wants to take back the lands Stalin granted to Poland, as the German chancellor suggested about a year ago, the Russians won't intervene.
Ukraine is not Russian.
Of course it was for 95% of it's history, and despite falling under the Nazi yoke of Germany and USA for the present, will be again soon. NATO is on it's last legs. A video I saw on telegram sums up the conflict. A US$2mil self propelled howitzer being taken out by a US$200 drone.

I remember seeing a retired high ranking American officer interviewed about 6 months ago. He said the war is over. Ukraine has lost so many soldiers and so much equipment. It's only a question of whether Ukraine will run out of soldiers or the collective West will run out of money first. This is running neck and neck at present. Ukraine is on it's 8th wave of mobilisation, 55~60 year-old are now literally being dragged into enlistment officers while 16~18 year-old boys have been barred form leaving the country. While banks in the West drop Broncos forwards seeing Kafusi rush out of the line to belt them.

You are really fired up over this! Call me shallow but I'm more fired up over the upcoming Battle for Brisbane. It's not our war.

I'm just angry about the lies, hypocrisy, warmongering, killings, arrests, torture of journalists and all-round tyranny of USA and it's primary lackey states in Western Europe and Germany.

Look at the Nord Stream sabotage. Unprecedented act of environmental arson and industrial terrorism yet those regimes and the "free press" don't want to talk about it. Does that mean industrial terrorism on a mass scale is ok now? Because the Russians have said of the perpetrators aren't brought to justice and reparations paid, that is exactly what is going to happen. And who could blame them? To not retaliate is to merely invite still greater acts of terrorism.

Intrigue, lies, hypocrisy, murder and etc has been practiced by those in power for as long as human history. By the Russians, USA, UK, Germany, France, China along with everyone else.

Now the season is over, I wonder if we can revisit this?

The vaunted counter offensive has gone about as well as expected. That is, a catastrophe. I was watching an interview with a retired high ranking American officer who said NATO underestimated Russia's technological and industrial capability by a factor of 10. Now NATO has noting but nukes.

The US regime wants to start a war with Russia and/or China in order to cancel the US election. Now it's a just a question of whatever they are so insane as to transfer tactical nukes to their pet Nazis who have nothing to lose at all. They are as dead as fried chicken.

To that end, former PM of Russia Medvedev said in the last hour:

Russia will no longer be brothers with the West. Russians shouldn't wait for reconciliation with Europe. “Biden, Trudeau, Sunak, Scholz, Macron, Meloni, as well as the leaders of the most infamous Poland, the bestialized Scandinavian countries, militaristic Japan, marsupials from Australia and New Zealand and other plague fleas like the Baltic states are direct and obvious accomplices of the Nazis. And the attitude towards them must be built as to the leaders of the countries of the Nazi coalition.

Say it while you can. Not much longer now it'll be disallowed.

The only thing that is certain, there was never any prohibition from me.
I'm shocked by the US politicians acknowledging massive Ukrainian losses and then saying, "it's the best money we ever spent". If that doesn't convince our regime (either wing of the ruling party) to just stay down here and STFU in regard to China especially, nothing will.
